ABOUT:
Disco ball sparkle! A unique panel / lozenge / grid ring set with 8 highly domed dutch rose cut diamonds in two rows with 11 smaller rose cut diamond spacers to give the ring face all over texture and sparkle. I love these antique settings when they incorporate smaller diamonds into the spaces between prongs just to completely encrust the ring face.

And can we talk about the shoulders? Beautiful scrolled and bead rivet detail on each side leading to the lattice openwork gallery, this one is interesting from all angles. Crafted in 18k gold with the diamonds in closed back and foiled cut down collet settings.

I got this one in France but they believed it to be Dutch in origin. The cuts of the rose cuts certainly are the dutch rose / Antwerp / Holland cut or crowned rose cut... This old cutting style goes by many names but is known for being the chunkier cut method with the highly domed tops, compared to many rose cuts from the period which were thinly sliced disks.

Beautiful geometry, nice size and attention grabbing sparkle to this early 1800s Georgian era piece which offers geometry, an ornate design and those flashes and winks of antique sparkle. Impactful too with the diamonds facing up to the equivalent of a 2 carat cluster. And in a nice and sturdy setting which we love to find on pieces of this age.

No hallmarks remain which is common on pieces of this age, there is a strap to the back of the shank with a slight difference in hue to the gold so the piece appears to have been sized.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/4

The ring face is 18mmx10.3mm and 5.7mm tall off the finger.

Each of the larger diamonds is 3.8 to 4.3mm. Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove the stones from the antique setting. Rose cuts in these closed collet settings are difficult to measure without putting them on a scale but it is over a carat total weight in diamonds.
Like most rose cuts these have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern stone, but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. If these were brilliant cuts with pavilions below the stones, it would be about 2 carats total weight in diamonds so that gives you an idea of how it "faces up" size wise.
The ring weight is 6.75 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Many more images can be found on my website.

Some warmth to gray hues from age to the foil backed settings. There are some cloudy spots from age and deterioration to the foil but nice to find that the foil is not muddy, dark or rusty looking. One has a pink hue which we sometimes see from that organic wear to the foil, while another has a more noticeable warmth - this seems more noticeable in the direct sunlight but with the highly domed tops to catch the light, the piece is quite lively and bright.

Typical for antique diamonds there are some faint natural inclusions, most being a crystal or frosty spot with 2 tiny carbon specks seen under magnification. Again nothing glaring and they are only slightly eye visible, but can catch the light. Much of what is seen would be due to the age of the foil backs, which are still sought after in terms of fabrication as they are appropriate for the period. But with closed back settings we avoid getting them wet.

Considering age the setting is quite sturdy, none of the stones move, it has a very quality hand feel. There is dark patina to the top so there appears to be some silver in the fabrication which is customary for the period to set the diamonds in a white metal, but under magnification much of the area around the collets and prongs are gold including the frame of the panel ring face.

Taking the ring off the finger and studying the back inside the ring face, it looks like there may have been a locket compartment or back panel at one point as you can see some gold framing in a rosier gold hue. There is also a seam and tooling inside the ring face at each shoulder but if it was re-shanked it was done so in antiquity as the patinas are well matching. And there is nothing visible at the ring shoulders while wearing as far as visible solder, etc. We also know this was always a ring the way the ring face is curved on the underside to rest against the finger, if it was a conversion from a pin, the back would be flat.

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely sparkle, but it also highlights the warmth and inclusions, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) These pieces were intended to be viewed by fireside and candlelight so they exude a beautiful antique sparkle. Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
