ABOUT:

This is a fun bauble with the most fabulous color and inner glow to the juicy custom cut cabochon garnet. This statement ring has a large Georgian era antique ring face in what I see as a harp shape with domed closed back. It has a halo of graduating sized pearls surrounding the large domed cabochon garnet. At the top is a smaller flat cut garnet in collet setting with a foiled back that also catches the light beautifully and reads slightly more pink. The ring face is a Georgian era element that was added in antiquity to an also antique, very sturdy extra wide cigar band. It may have been a wedding band - it has an antique 18k hallmark struck nice and deep inside and the band is a very wide 8.8mm all the way around.

A wonderful statement piece with the domed ring face perching on the substantial shank. I just love the garnets - the oblong, deep cabochon appears custom cut for the setting and reads a deep crimson when viewed face up but lights up a beautiful grape purple color when it catches the light from the side. This piece is certainly the only one of its kind.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7, the wide band spans a few sizes on the mandrel but seems to fit as a 7. The ring face is 23mm north south by 15mm wide and stands 9.5mm off the finger. It weighs an extra heavy / sturdy 14 grams. The cigar band shank is 8.8mm. The large oblong garnet is about 15x10mm and the smaller is 3.5mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The wonderful thing about conversions like this is that the stones do not demonstrate the wear of many antique rings from this era. This statement piece was clearly very gently worn as the cabochon garnet has a wonderful sheen and polish. Just one nick which you can catch in the photos and a few tiny nibbles here or there, but overall the stone is in better than most condition considering age with a glossy polish. It has some natural inclusions that can catch the light within the stone. A bit of build up and adhesive around the pearls seen under magnification but it appears quite tidy with normal wear, with the pearls having a nice antique patina with some warm to gray hues, and a lovely sheen and lustre.

The ring face has a slightly rosier patina compared to the rich and warm antique yellow gold band, but this is not seen while wearing as the ring face is completely covered with the stones and pearls. There is a seam to the side of the wide band with slightly different hue to the gold from a sizing.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

There are no dark spots to the gold, it just reflects its surroundings in the photographs at times.

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
