Gorgeous Perpignan GARNET Station Chain Necklace 18k Gold Bezel Set Pendants Rose Cut Closed Back Almandine Glowing Rare Pendant Holder

Personal collection release! You've heard me say it before: My favorite stone in all the world - the Perpignan garnet! And evidently I will not rest until everyone else loves them just as much. : ) This one was mine, bought during my last sourcing trip to Barcelona and France and surrounds, this one coming directly from Perpignan to me.

These special jewels are trademarked and made only in that area of Catalonia France. There have only ever been a small handful of makers in all the world at a time that were trained in the multi step process of creating these special pieces.

This is an antique one I purchased and it's a form I have not seen before as a station chain (We usually see them as festoon type necklaces) so it is rare in that regard.

The glowing warm 18k gold chain holds the 8 round Perpignan garnets spaced across the front of the chain. At the center are the two larger garnets with space between them to hold a pendant. I wore it many ways - as the chain alone, with a pendant at the center by adding a removable dog clip or split ring between the two largest stones, or with an extender wrapped twice around the neck and worn as a choker layering chain. The space there is intended to make room for a potentially large pendant but I also liked it worn alone.

This antique necklace is among my favorite of the many (many tee hee) pieces I sourced on the trip, due to its exceptional color, the stones vary from crimson with a pink flash to juicy berry purple! And despite their gorgeous berry red wine coloring, they somehow manage to emit sparkle!

These pieces are just so special and so unique, specific to the region in France where they were passed down from mothers to daughters as a symbol of pride of their Catalonian heritage. Symbols of pride and highly collectible to antique jewelry enthusiasts as much as ever today!

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
20 1/4 inches end to end. Garnets are 6-8mm each in their settings.
It weighs 13 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

One of the larger garnets has a nibble, the others with smaller nicks but a nice sheen and polish overall and a beautiful color and glow. The raspberry pinkish purple color with the light reflecting foil giving it a lighter glow within - swoon! The chain does roll and flip while wearing but the backs are solid 18k gold so that is pretty to view as well. Several of the domed backs of the garnets have impressions, linear dings or a rippled appearance from age.

I love it! Always will so if it doesn't sell well I'll keep enjoying her! ; )

Please note I take some pics in the sunshine to show the gorgeous glow and color but it really lights up and highlights the inclusions and abrasions (and even just fingerprints) more than would be visible with normal wear.

These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
