Back from my inventory trip to Europe with so many hand picked one at a time finds! More examples seen in the group photo which also helps with scale : ). Feel free to check out my Instagram to see posts about the trip and where these pieces came from!

ABOUT:

One of my favorites of the trip, or actually one of my favorites of the year! I feel like I say that alot, because I always choose things for the shop that I myself love and would wear, but these really stand out in the crowd - For the crazy domed disco balls at the center that shoot out rainbows like nobody's business.

These antique stud earrings are further accented by a halo of smaller rose cuts. These studs are sort like little buttons with slightly domed gold backs holding the ear posts that are worn with push backs. Nice size to the amazing chunky cut center rose cuts.

I think the push backs while still showing patina and age might not be original to the earrings as the back of the earrings are a rosier gold and the push backs are a more rich yellow gold. But this variance is not visible when wearing them. The diamonds are set in silver collet settings with little bead prongs.

They both test at 14k and the push backs are stamped 585, which is the numerical hallmarking system used in Europe in this case indicating 14k gold. Found in Sweden.

Closed back setting typical for the period with foil backing to the stones that is bright and reflective. Really quite bright and in nice condition.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers draw them out to hold against the person to determine how they wear. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:

Rose cuts are always difficult to estimate because there aren't any great formulas out there for calculating carat weight without removing them and putting them on a scale. With the flat backs, they are spreader with a lower carat weight typically than modern diamonds with pavilions. These do have very high crowns with their chunky domed tops though. If you were to estimate how they "face up" by millimeter the center stones would appear as about 1 carat each with the halos of 12 additional diamonds adding .36 carat visually. So they wear at about 1 1/3 carat each or 2 2/3 carat for the pair (2.6ctw).

Diameter of each is about 11mm. Center stones are about 6.5mm each, the smaller in the halo about 2mm each. The pair weighs 4 grams. From the flat backs of the earrings (not including the posts) to the tops of the chunky domed crowns is about 6.7mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds with some natural inclusions, some of the smaller stones appearing a bit frosty but still with an excellent sparkle. The brighter of the two larger diamonds has some small carbon specks very slightly eye visible. The warmer looking stone actually has a better clarity, but has more age to the foil backing resulting in some warm cloudy spots that can lead the stone to reflect a bit gray or warm. It is more noticeable in some lighting conditions than in others, especially when facing directly up where you are looking through the stone to the backing.

These are certainly not dull or lifeless in anyway, and not muddy overall but we see this often times due to age in closed back settings. The warmth and more muted reflectivity is more noticeable when the two are compared side by side than it would be when worn on opposite sides of the head, and the chunky stones really catch the light and emit rainbows of sparkles. We don't recommend 24/7 wear on these antique beauties because with the closed back settings they should not get wet. One of the push backs is a bit on the weaker side when it comes to having a bit less tension but it does the job. But I feel they are quite special. It is dark out now and these glitter bombs are just flashing away as I work with them. With the patina to the silver, could be dressed up or down!

Two of the small stones have some tiny flakes of loss leaving an unpolished area at the outside edge that is seen only under magnification. A few carbon specks to some of the outside stones. The center stones have a flea bite to the pointed tip of each seen only under magnification, for the one it may have always just been cut that way,

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
