ABOUT:
My next stock drop is an assortment of charms and pendants! Most of these I purchased on my inventory trips to Europe earlier this summer. A few of these are personal collection releases (wink wink to those of you who know about my garnet hoarding, floral, French, antique jewelry problem - whoopsie!)
I love figural antique jewelry and this one such a beautiful coloring and wonderful antique look. This used to be a clasp! The loop inside the palm is original and serves as the perfect bale to hang on a chain, while looking at the underside we can see where the insert to the clasp originally was.
It has an applied flower on the top of the hand with leaf details and multi-colored gold petals. On the finger is a tiny ruby ring. I was told when I purchased it that it was Regency period or early 1800s.
It is missing one leaf and of course is no longer a clasp but it came to me this way and wears beautifully as a pendant.
No hallmarks which is common for the period but tests at 14k gold and it is very sturdy with a quality hand feel and beautiful design.
From ancient Roman times through the sentimental Georgian and Victorian eras, hands have held many messages: loyalty, strength, romance and fidelity, affection, friendship and even betrothal.
Additional items shown in photos not included, props, dishes, mice ; ) also not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
Dimensions: 32mm long by 11mm wide by 11mm deep if you count the loop which extends from the palm.
Weight: 6.7g
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned the leaf on the left side is missing. The floral detail is still striking but you can see the smooth underlying gold where the other green leaf was once applied. I wonder if there was a tiny something set into the center of the flower? The ring holds a ruby but the center of the flower is vacant, there is a space there but it may just be the design as it is so tiny, I'm not sure anything ever fit there. A lot of dark patina in the recesses making it look every bit its age of 200 years. This could be polished up if desired but most of my buyers prefer original patina with antiques.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I dearly love, wear and sell antique jewelry so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!
