ABOUT:

REDUCED!

One of my recent favs - exceptional old cut diamond and heavy setting of beautiful gold work makes this a real show stopper. Wonderfully sparkling French antique ring with nice sized diamond set in rich, buttery 18k yellow gold with ornate details to the chunky shoulders.

I love antique diamonds, even those with inclusions or hues typical for the time, because some of those were still among the best available in the market during that period, and were expertly cut to enhance their best characteristics. So I don’t often like to compare antique stones against modern grading standards - BUT This diamond, for an old stone has particularly lovely fire reflecting a noticeable flash with the other colors of the rainbow. It was actually quite noticeable, especially while trying to photograph it. It also has a bright white color so even though the stone was made long before the 4 C's existed, it sparkles really beautifully. I'm amazed by it now as I wear it in low light how glittery and bright it still is.

And the gold work on this one is really something special. Unique design makes a great chunky unisex band.

Antique box not included, it will come in a modern box.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures about a size 5 and up some. It currently has a spring loaded insert inside the band, meant to serve as a somewhat adjustable shank - this is intended for arthritic knuckles, to slide over the larger knuckle and still fit snugly at the skinnier base of the finger. So this makes the ring fit smaller, around a 5. If it were to be removed (easily done by any jeweler) it would fit a larger finger but I can't get an accurate measurement. The inside opening of the ring measures 18.5 by 17mm, and is slightly oval, not visible while wearing. I just decided to sell it as is in case someone would like the fit this way, or if the buyer intends to size the ring anyway, it would be no problem removing it then when the work is done.

The diamond is around 0.85 carat. The stone is about 6mm, I couldn't get an accurate depth on the stone and would never remove it to measure so the carat weight is approximate. The piece weighs a VERY sturdy 12.5 grams. Great quality hand feel.

HALLMARKS:

No hallmarks remain but it was sold to me as 18k which is the standard in France and tested to confirm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Age appropriate wear for this estate piece. One faint inclusion not seen by the eye along with a few of the tiniest minuscule frosty speck inclusions only under very strong magnification and even then difficult to detect, but no dark spots, and nothing visible to the eye in the least. No chips, cracks or nicks. Amazing color and sparkle to this old stone, I've seen and studied many many and would say this is one of my better ones. Surface wear to the gold but still nicely formed and sturdy with deep, crisp detail. Some lotion / soap buildup that I missed before photographing that I have since cleaned further. Amazing patina and texture. But my disclaimer as with all my antique pieces, this is not a mint condition item.

Very sweet piece from a very special era. I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )

A note about antique diamonds:
Prior to the 1940s and especially on antique pieces, there was not much emphasis placed on the "4 C's". (Sure people probably appreciated a certain look of a certain diamond as it appeared to the eye but it was not a graded scale like we have today.) So it is difficult to judge antique stones against modern day diamonds and their grading system. And the diamond cutters of the time were experts at cutting these stones to enhance them, which means that even lower color grades can be cut to appear whiter. It is also interesting that "lower graded" diamonds in today's scale system, were some of the best on the market during this period! Although that disclaimer doesn't really apply much to this particular piece as the diamond is very very fine.
