ABOUT:
Another heavy gold nugget. This sleek and rich antique gold signet ring has a gorgeous warm patina and deeply engraved coat of arms. It depicts two shields, one with diamonds, one with a crowned lion rampant, and above the shield is a crown.
The design of the crown symbol signifies the level of Nobility to be that of a Count (lower than a Duke, higher than a Viscount, Baron, Knight, or Lord.). Of course now France is a republic and there is no royal family recognized by the French state, but as is the case here, the owner likely had a title and could trace their nobility back to the French royal family. With the engraving it was often times used as a wax seal for correspondence as well.
French antique found in Paris with their hallmark for 18k at the back. It is also stamped inside the ring face with 18 and the maker's initials.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 1/4. It weighs 12.9 grams so a sturdy hand feel.
The ring face is 16.3mm north to the south on the finger and it stands 4mm tall off the finger, so thick is the ring face.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Pretty much indestructible with the use of such thick solid gold. Some deeper nicks and softening around the oval ring face as seen in the zoomed photos but really just surface wear, scratches, all as expected considering age. With the domed mirrored finish it is how they always look. Some patina in the recesses but a super legible design. Excellent quality.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
