ABOUT:

Per multiple requests I have been trying to source more gypsy band rings with larger diamonds. This one has so many fun attributes starting with the uniquely cut eye clean diamond.

I found this one in Paris and it was sold to me as a .88 carat old cut diamond in cushion cut form. Let me tell you about this unique stone!

It has a very wide girdle as we expect to see in old cut stones, but it is polished (whereas an antique stone would have a frosted girdle). The cut is a sort of star cut, very unique with much less faceting typical for older stones compared to a modern brilliant. It does have a pointed culet, but it has two layers of pavilion facets, the bottom layer making an 8-pointed star that you see when you look through the stone. It's like looking into a kaleidoscope. Adding to its intrigue, some of the table facets are slightly frosted instead of perfectly machine polished - which can be another indicator of older stones.

I wish I knew its story. I wonder if it is an older stone that was re-polished or re-cut, with the cutting expert determining that smaller facets on the bottom of the stone would make for the best way to enhance it? As I cannot definitively determine age, I am selling it as a vintage piece as it is at least that.

My items do very well without paperwork so I do not remove stones from their setting for "Four C's" grading but GIA would very likely classify this as a modified cushion cut. It is chunky and eye clean so a very fine and interesting stone. I look at antique and vintage diamonds all day every day and this is the first I've seen a cut like this so we can absolutely say that it is a unique and uncommon cut.

The kaleidoscope diamond is set in a vintage 18k gold setting with sturdy hand feel. It weighs a heavy 10.5 grams of solid gold (no hollowed out areas in this one except for the opening behind the diamond to let light pass through.) The ring face appears somewhat like a cigar band, with squared off edges tapering slightly towards the back but remaining wider all the way around, with thick gold at the ring face propping up the distinctive diamond.

This piece could be considered unisex. It has the French hallmark for 18k gold and a goldsmith stamp.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box not included.

This would be a wonderful gift - right hand ring, statement piece, or stacker, wedding band, etc. for male or female.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is currently a size 8 1/4 slightly snug. The ring face 5.7mm north south with the shank remaining quite wide all the way around. It is 4.7mm tall off the finger. It weighs 10.5g.

I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements. The exposed visible portions measure 6 by 5.6mm. Chunky in cut, it estimates to around 0.88 carat.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. But this one is pretty great - very sturdy setting ready for regular wear. The diamond is eye clean with no damage at all, just a few of the faint crystal natural speck inclusions seen only under strong magnification. It can display a slight warmth but much of this is due to it being flush set and surrounded by thick gold on all sides. There are no dark spots to the gold, it is just that it can reflects its surroundings. There is some shallow scuffing to the gold on one shoulder - this is seen more in direct light when it catches the light, than it is with normal wear. Due to age - please note this is not a mint condition item.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
