ABOUT:
This setting is everything - the glowing heavy 18k gold wide band tapers slightly towards the back but it's pretty mega in every way. 11.3 grams of 18k solid gold give it a wonderful quality hand feel.
Interesting setting with the applied cluster of rose cuts surrounding a rectangular natural emerald. The emerald is imperfect so it is priced accordingly but this amazing piece is still beautiful to wear or to repurpose the original antique setting if desired.
Found in France, it is stamped with the numerical hallmark used in Europe of 750, representing 18k gold. There is an additional partial symbol stamp that is not identifiable.
The halo holds nine chunky old mine cuts totaling around .75 carat. They are held in a white precious metal, I believe platinum, while the emerald is held in yellow gold prongs for contrast.
Super eye catching and substantial - a fun piece to wear!
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 1/2
The ring face is 11.4mm north south and 7mm tall off the finger.
The diamonds are 2.5 to 3mm each, some with quite chunky cuts. Very conservatively it is .75 carat in antique diamonds alone.
The emerald is 5.3x4.8mm.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove the stones from the antique setting.
The ring weight is a very heavy 11.3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The emerald has natural inclusions which weakened one area so it has a gash in the corner. It is super sturdy and wearable but the center stone is imperfect with that loss to the corner which is eye visible. The value is really in the setting as I would be listing it for signiiiiiiiiiificantly more if the center stone were complete, even if it had abrasions. Maybe this will give someone the opportunity to take on the project at a great price. The original antique setting is just fabulous. I'm listing it based on what I paid for it and if it doesn't sell, I'll happily add it to the project pile to restore it down the road as the prongs are in excellent shape and could even be re-used to set a new center stone if desired, although it is still wearable as is. There is a prong that overlaps the loss at that corner which at a distance helps mask the loss a bit.
The emerald also has a smaller chip to the opposite long edge but that side appears mostly complete to the eye. It is the one corner that shows the eye visible loss.
Some of the outlining diamonds are eye clean and others have again frosty inclusions. Varying hues including two that are warm to pale yellow in direct light. Two diamonds have some frosty flakes of loss and one has a warm brown inclusion.
A worn prong here or there but the stones are still all well set. The fabrication and craftsmanship is all quality and it is still wearable despite its bruises, poor baby. A deeper scratch test to the gold at the back (not done by me).
Please also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
