ABOUT:
Perfectly stackable sturdy and chunky antique five stone band ring with center blue sapphire flanked by sparkling old mine cut diamonds, two on each side. Nice sized diamonds with the two larger old mine cuts measuring around 1/3 carat each. Without removing the stones I am getting a total carat weight of around 3/4 carat / 0.75ctw in diamonds. I suspect the sapphire is synthetic as it was a popular choice for the period. A lot of thick, buttery 18k gold used in the making of this eye catching band.
HALLMARKS:
French hallmarks for 18k with goldsmith stamp.
Antique box is not included. Listing is for the one ring with the others in the stack shown for color comparison and scale.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8 ¾. It weighs a sturdy 9.6 grams. The band is 7mm wide north to south on the finger and 4mm tall off the finger. The sapphire is about 6mm, the diamonds are about 4.3mm each with the smaller around 2.7mm each.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The sapphire has a chip with flakes of loss on one side. It is a small round spot on the edge by the side facets. The stone still appears compete and round to the eye but if you catch the surface up close in a reflection you can see the unpolished area on the surface where the flakes of loss occurred. I noticed when I was looking at the video a little cloudy build up around the stone which I was able to gently clean away. The diamonds are in great shape with no chips or nicks or nibbles whatsoever and a nice clarity and sparkle. Typical antique diamonds with a tiny silk inclusion here or they're seen only under strong magnification but clean to the eye. Surface wear to the gold from age but still perfectly formed and very sturdy.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
