ABOUT:
Extra sturdy retro vintage piece with a chunky, colorful and sparkling setting! This sturdy piece is crafted in 18k gold and holds a center oval bezel set natural sapphire measuring 1.6 carat. Surrounding it in four curved / beveled sections is a halo 2 carats of tapered baguette diamonds, nested perfectly into the setting to provide an almost ruffly halo around the center stone. It is so interesting the way they catch the light. The layers and movement to the diamonds in the halo make it so interesting in the way they catch the light.
Very heavy hand feel and quality fabrication to this fun ring.
The sapphire has a nice, lighter true blue color with the contrasting glitter panels of the baguette diamonds. And the piece offers a unique and interesting geometry with the color and sparkle.
Found in Italy, it is stamped 750 inside, the numerical hallmarking system used in Europe for 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 7 1/2.
The ring face is 15mm north south and 8mm off the finger.
The ring weight is an extra heavy 17.7 grams.
The sapphire is about 1.6 carat and the diamonds total around 2 carats, this is an estimate as I would not remove them from the setting for exact measurements.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There are some abrasions to the table facets of the sapphire but note that this appears much worse in the sunshine photos than it does with normal wear, because they catch the light and really light up / highlight themselves in direct sunlight. With normal wear it has a beautiful blue color and a nice sheen and polish.
The diamonds have excellent clarity. They can read a bit gray from how they are set but this is just how the piece was made. They are crystal clear so any cloudiness seen is from buildup inside the ring face. I did give it a few good cleanings but there is a decorative openwork cover over the back of the ring face to make it comfortable against the skin, which makes it hard to reach the openings behind the stones. A little more time in soaking and brushing will continue to improve it.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
