I love figural jewelry so for this one - the bird hooked me!
But it's also fantastic in its heavy hand feel, quality fabrication, coloring and overall ornateness. The blue enamel background is a gorgeous contrast the glowing 18k gold with all the amazing detailing - the bird, flowers, leaves, swirls, which continue all the way around. Coin edge detailing gives it a texture and rim on the north and south edges.
With the flat north south edges, it could be stacked and layered, but with the width of 13.5mm, it is certainly eye catching and substantial worn alone as well.
There is a strap in the back where it is hallmarked and where the piece was connected. Certainly has an antique look as enamel was so popular in the Victorian period, but it's in really good condition so I'm going to say vintage to be safe as it doesn't have the wear we'd typically see on a 100+ year old piece.
Found in France, it has their hallmark for 18k gold along with two other symbol stamps that I can't decipher. It also has the numerical 750 stamp, which is used in Europe for 18k gold (750 parts per 1000).
Antique Box IS Included! These old boxes are collectible and hold value. The box is not original to the piece, and due to the width of the band it rests inside, but I am including it as a gift because it's always fun to store our goodies in collectible housing : ). I thought it looked lovely with the blue velvet interior.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: It's 6 3/4 to the center of the wide band on a mandrel, but it fits much snugly due to the wide band displacing the finger. It seems to fit closer to a 6 / 6.25.
13.5mm north south
Weight: 14.5g. It's quite thick.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There was some soap or lotion buildup in the recesses of the high relief pattern when I photographed it. I don't like to soak enamel pieces so I gave it a very gentle cleaning and added a few updated pics. It is suuuper sturdy, all the enamel is complete and it shows very little signs of wear. Excellent condition, ready to wear!
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
