ABOUT:
Awesome glittering antique wide band ring with large scalloped ring face holding a center mine cut diamond raised in prongs surrounded by a halo of 8 rose cut diamond petals. The center stone alone is around .6 carat with a total carat weight for the ring of about 2.6 carats, made to appear even larger with the spacing of the platinum "petals." This one has a nice finger coverage!
This French antique piece is crafted in 18k warm rosy gold with the ring face topped in platinum, as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal. It has a wonderful sturdy setting, nice height and a beautiful sparkle. The sturdy band is a comfort fit, making it a dream to glide on and off the finger.
My favorite thing about the piece is there is one diamond with a peachy champagne to light brown hue. It is an extra chunky cut with high crowns and a single row of triangular scissor cuts - always fun to find some interesting one of a kind quirks in antique diamonds. In some light some of the other stones can reflect a bit of a peachy hue as well from reflecting the rosy gold setting underneath.
Found in France with French hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
Antique box not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 7
The ring face is 15mm north south. It stands 7mm tall off the finger with the wide band at 4.7mm.
It weighs a very sturdy 7.9g.
The center diamond is about 5.6mm cushion cut and the others are 3.7 to 4mm each. Some with very chunky cuts. I do not remove stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but estimates to around 2.6 carat total weight in diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The center stone has eye visible inclusions, four of which carry up to the surface leaving an unpolished indented natural inclusion. The stone is stable and the prongs are great, it's just included affecting nearly half the stone. Some tiny nibbles to the girdle on that stone as well. Several of the outside stones are completely eye clean, others with a few faint specks or wisps, one which carries to the surface but no damage to any stones. Two seem to read a bit cloudy or frosty when studying under strong magnification. Also typical for antique diamonds, they have varying hues - the warmest peachy brown one being my favorite of the bunch. As these were cut long before the Four C's for perfectly machine cut stones cut by the millions was invented or focused on. When it comes to antique stones such as these, their eccentricities and quirks are what make them unique, one of a kind and sought after in their scarcity. But I would have priced it higher if the center stone had a bit more clarity. This one is a head turner!
There is some darker patina at the solder points at the shoulders - hidden under the ring face, not visible while wearing. It may have always been fabricated this way or perhaps was a wedding band with a cluster face added to it.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
