ABOUT:
Disco ball sparkle to this glittery antique rose cut diamond halo cluster pendant. In a sought after and somewhat uncommon open back setting so you can see right through the stones (and making it easy to clean)! The center diamond is a nice sized 8mm by 6.5mm with a nice clarity. Fourteen diamonds in all, the spready rose cuts face up at a size to the eye of around 2 carats. The center stone especially has a really nice clarity - like glass with the disco ball facets to catch the light. A nice dome to the center stone as well (along with some of the outlining stone). We often see antique rose cuts as really thinly sliced discs but these have some depth.
Found in France, this antique piece is crafted in 18k gold with a domed openwork back, with the diamond settings topped in silver as was customary for the time to set diamonds in white metal.
It really wears beautifully in a larger size. No hallmarks but sold to me as 18k gold which is the standard in France and silver topped, and tested to confirm.
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Exact carat weight is unknown as their depths vary and I would not remove the stones from the antique setting. But the largest center stone measures about 8mm by 6.5mm so it should be around 1 carat, facing up at at least 1.25 carat if you were to compare it to an oval modern brilliant with a pavilion. Rose cuts with their flat backs have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the spready surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. The thirteen outlining diamonds each measure about 2.7mm give or take so she reads as a 2 carat cluster pendant comparatively. Please use the millimeter measurements to form your own calculations as well : )
The pendant measures 23mm top to bottom including the attached loop (but not the dangling ring) by 14mm east west and stands 7mm deep off the decollette to the top crown of the raised center rose cut. It weighs 1.85 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Very nice clarity to the largest center diamond but it has a few nibbles on the outside girdle edge. Two are very shallow tiny flakes to the surface, hidden right up against the bezel and not visible to the eye. The other nibbled area in a different spot has more loss where a tiny gap shows between the edge of the girdle and the bezel. It appears as a rough edge but again pushed right against the bezel so not very apparent even when studying the piece and certainly not with regular wear.
The smaller outlining stones are typical old rose cut diamonds with some faint inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, some of this may have always been that way as this is how they typically look. They are all fully round and they are small so this is not really visible to the eye, they all have a wonderful sparkle. A bit of buildup behind the small stones. A worn prong here or there as expected for age but none of the stones move.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
