I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe and around the USA to find unique antique items to bring you (see my instagram to follow along! : ). Some additional examples of my typical inventory seen in the group photo - These pieces were all hand picked one at a time to assemble a collection that I hope you will enjoy! Thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
Squeeeee! We antique jewelry addicts just looove a crustily encrusted antique diamond ring. So much texture to this piece with the varying shapes and sizes of chunky rose cuts, their domed high crowns cropping out of the hexagon shield shaped ring face and shoulders. This one faces up at over 2 carats so it's quite blingy (see exact measurements below).
Fourteen diamonds in all, these are the antique dutch (or also named holland, Antwerp or crowned rose cuts) with the high crowns. We often find many pieces from the period where the rose cuts are more thinly sliced discs so it's fun to find an original antique with so much chunkiness.
The fun doesn't stop there, in addition to the eye catching hexagonal platform that the diamonds are set into, in turning the piece to the side we see crisp geometric and scrolling filigree details.
Super eye catching and very sparkly of course too with all those domed disco balls - a fun piece to wear! Varying shapes depths to the diamonds giving it a free form organic appearance with a moody sparkle from the chunky diamonds. One of the largest center diamonds has more of a pear shape to it.
Certainly an uncommon, one of a kind piece with so many unique elements to it.
Just so much to love on this ring.
Found in France with their hallmark for platinum on the back.
Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Currently measures a size 6 1/2. Weighs 4.7 Grams. The large ring face is 19x12mm.
So much diamond action on this one! The four largest center diamonds in a row are 6.3x3.8mm and 4.6x3.8mm, 4.1x3.8mm and 4.6x3.9mm. The stones in the halo are 2.5 to 3.3mm with two smaller spacers at 2mm. The shoulder diamonds are 4 and 4.5mm.
Like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone as Rose cut diamonds are more spready. These do have extra chunky crowns though. It is difficult to speculate on carat weight without removing them from the setting, which I would never do. But it faces up at easily over 2 carats in appearance.
CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. These are typical old rose cut diamonds, cut by hand in irregular shapes and sizes. Non uniform with frosty unpolished edges, they often look this way. One diamond has a lovely pale yellow hue. Varying warmth to gray to the other diamonds as well, much of this attributed to how they reflect the light and why we love them. Not a lot of carbon, just a small smattering in one of the shoulder diamonds. Some of the rose cuts are eye clean, others appear a bit frosty from natural inclusions. Some nibbled girdle edges with a small area of tiny chips or a rough edge, some indented natural inclusions. The ring is completely free form which is what is so great about the one of a kind piece. So having all the uniquely hand cut stones assembled means they are not all going to fit perfectly snugly into round settings, as such we see some gaps under magnification from this in addition to the nibbled edge here or there. This is mostly seen under magnification when you really study it. All the stones appear complete to the eye.
Back then they didn't focus as much on these types of quirks as these were hand cut long before the Four C's was invented and when there were significantly less diamonds in circulation compared to the millions of machine cut stones fabricated today.
Great that it has an open back but I would still recommend gentle wear due to the little bead prongs holding in all the fabulously irregularly shaped stones. As an example, one of the shoulder diamonds while still held by little bead prongs has a tiny dab of adhesive in the back not seen while wearing, I assume it was done to keep the stone from rocking in the setting and reduce the chance of loss, despite the fact that the little bead prongs are still holding its irregular shape into the setting.
There are seems at each ring shoulder with a bit of discoloration that appear to be a part of the fabrication of the piece as it is still stable and very tidy with the filigree work but something to seek out in zoomed photos which will accent it much more than while wearing. I'm notoriously picky with my item descriptions which assist me in having so many happy customers that I am grateful for. ; )
Very Fun, special and unique piece to wear with a great sparkle and the most amazing texture.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

All items hand picked by me, one at a time from all over the world. All listings individually written by me, and not AI, after studying each piece to discuss its beauties and its ; ) eccentricities (which I am picky to point out).
Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
