Large BUTTERCUP Acanthus LEAF French VICTORiAN Antique Rose Cut Diamond Ring 18k Gold

The shoulders on this setting are everything. Tall openwork buttercup ring in rich, glowing 18k gold. The shoulders are scrolled with acanthus leaf details leading up to the large domed ring face which holds a 6mm rose cut diamond like a little disco ball at the center. French antique piece from the late Georgian to early Victorian period.

Makes a striking and unique stacker with a great antique appearance. The diamond is imperfect but the setting is so lovely.

HALLMARKS:
No hallmarks remain which is common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pics. Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 3/4 The ring face Is 10.5mm north south, and stands 6.5mm off the finger. The diamond is about 6mm with a nice little domed top and depth to it. Exact carat weight is unknown as I would never remove it, but like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. A round modern brilliant diamond with 1 carat total weight has a diameter of around 6.5mm for comparison's sake and to give you an idea of scale. The piece weighs 3g.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

The diamond has a notch of loss on one outside edge at the location of a carbon inclusion which weakened the area and then deteriorated. The diamond is still stable and not cracked but both the inclusion and the crease of loss are eye visible when you angle the piece to look at the outside edge. Sorrow sorrows, but then we see this sometimes on antique diamonds. The diamond has a wonderful sparkle but reads a silvery gray from aging to the foil, still a beautiful glow from within.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
