ABOUT:

This is a personal collection release, one of my most difficult to part with I'd say. I love antique garnets and this is a scarce one!

French Victorian era antique pendant with two glossy, glowing purplish red natural garnets - one round and one teardrop / pear shaped. Both cabochon cut with the most delicious color - like fine wine or a juicy berry. These really glow from within, lighting up a vibrant color in direct light, with a deeper and moodier color in ambient light. They are open backed which allows them to catch the light.

Crafted in 18k gold, the two stones are set in silver prongs that are in the shape of leaves or vines which are encrusted with rose cut diamonds, two on each prong. I purchased this piece in Paris.

French hallmarks for 18k gold and silver on the loop.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.

Antique Boxes, props, chains, mice : ) not included.

MEASUREMENTS:

35mm (1.4 inches) to the attached loop by 12mm x 6.5mm deep. It weighs a sturdy 4.5g. The round garnet is about 8mm diameter and the teardrop is 18x1mm.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

No chips or cracks and overall a nice and glossy sheen. The teardrop has two vertical surface scratches, one which can catch the light more than the other. It has some natural bubble inclusions that can catch the light and a color variance inclusion under lit magnification. The round stone also has natural inclusions including a horizontal one that carries up to the surface leaving a small but polished over crease, again not very eye visible unless you are looking for it. They have a slight difference in hue, the teardrop being a dustier rose / mauve when held up to the light compared to the round one which is a bit more purple. Not glaringly different though, especially while wearing with the decollate behind.

Typical antique diamonds with natural inclusions, some nicks or a tiny frosty / unpolished area here and there to the old cut stones. Again, mostly seen under magnification since they are small diamonds. These are the old, quite rough hand cut stones that may have always been this way, they provide a beautiful untamed sparkle and that great antique look but definitely have some jagged edges and a few warm hues.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Striking to wear - she's a special one!

I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
