ABOUT:
Awesome scale, color, sparkle and design to this antique cluster pendant featuring a nice sized, glossy and glowing blue cabochon sapphire. The sapphire is natural but treated (as 95% of them are). It has a striking royal blue glow from within. This is accented by the large leaf setting that it dangles from, which is set with rose cut diamonds for sparkle. The top rose cut is a triangle cut - always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds!
Found in France, the piece is crafted in 18k and topped in silver, although no hallmarks remain which we sometimes see on pieces of this age, but excellent quality. The backs, bale and connecting loops are gold so this could be worn with any color chain - gold, platinum, silver, etc.
Nice size and sturdy hand feel.
Would be a beautiful something old and something blue for a bride.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones and the depths vary but the rose cuts have a nice dome. The largest measures 5.3mm, the next largest are 3.5 & 3.8mm, the triangular rose cut at the top is 3.2mm and the rest are 1.7 to 2.7mm. Loosely estimated total carat weight of about 1 carat in diamonds.
It measures 40mm top to bottom. The leaf measures 23x12mm and the nice size sapphire measures 14x10 with a nice dome of 8.3mm deep.
The piece weighs a sturdy 6.3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Varying hues to the gold on the back, the leaf is yellow gold where the back of the halo and bale are rosier gold. Note the bale is not welded so there is a crease where it can be opened like a jump ring but it is very sturdy and the piece is heavy so it would be secure on a chain.
Typical antique diamonds in closed back settings displaying some warmth but the foil is quite bright and reflective, not muddy or rusty. There is a rough edge to the triangular rose cut seen under magnification on the right girdle edge, not visible while wearing. Some faint surface wear to the sapphire and as expected for age but a really nice sheen and polish considering its years. Under lit magnification I can see some crazing lines from the inclusions reaching up to the surface but this is not seen at all by the eye. It has an exceptional blue color, glow and does not appear dull in any way.
Note that there are curves to the leaf and the bale protrudes but in my opinion in wears beautifully. This is just how it was made but see photos as it does not have a flat back.
Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
