Who doesn't love antique figural animal jewelry?! They always make a striking conversation piece bringing some whimsy to the ringstack!
This literal beast of a ring has the stats to match - weighing over 13 grams of solid 18k gold with the chunky old mine cut diamond in his mouth measuring at least a carat. Very clear and legible design detail with the mane continuing its wavy texture all the way around the shank. Also at each shoulder added into the design are the lions paws with little claws extended like he is reaching towards the stone.
French antique piece with a great unisex design. It is stamped with the French hallmark for 18k gold on the back. With a sturdy hand feel and excellent quality, the buttery 18k gold accented by the sparkle of the chunky old mine cut diamond.
In jewelry, lion motifs are frequently incorporated into to represent power and nobility along with courage, leadership and strength.
Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
MEASUREMENTS:
Ring is currently about a size 6 1/2, a little over. I would not remove the diamond to get an accurate measurement but it is about 6.4mmx 5.9mm widening out an unknown amount in the bezel. Estimates to at least one carat. I can't get a good look at the girdle as it is bezel set so one carat is a conservative estimate as it could go upwards from there.
It weighs a very sturdy 13.6 grams and the Lion head is about 15.8mm north to south on the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are in estate condition. Still very legible with high and low relief chiseled details. Typical old cut diamond with a natural inclusion. It is crystal crease with a few small carbon specks all in one spot just under the surface on the bottom edge extending slightly into the area under the table of the diamond. It does not reach the surface and is not glaring, nor is it a large inky spot, but you should be able to pick it out in the zoom images which show these things much more than with normal wear. Under magnification I can detect some faint polishing lines on the underside of the old cut diamond. This is not eye visible and the stones remains quite fiery. No damage. Pretty, buttery patina, still nicely shaped. Rad piece!
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
