LION Figural Creole HOOP EARRINGS 8.3g 18k Gold Animal Head Face French Vintage 3D Heavy Chunky Tube

Awesome French figural creole hoop earrings with a lion head holding the ear wire.

The tube hoops are a timeless classic but the addition of the lion head pressed up against the ear adds an interesting edge and design element. Found in Paris, these are at least vintage if not older. You apply tension on the ear wire to open and close them, so that the wire nests into the lions mouth. The lion design is like one you would see on a shield in a Game of Thrones battle, or so Mr. Mouse tells me. : )

Very sturdy hand feel weighing 8.3 grams of 18k gold. The tubes certainly have vacant space inside but a thick amount of gold was used so there are no sharp dings or large dents.

Please note the exact measurements which are specified below as many people seem to expect hoops to be larger due to the zoomed in pictures I am required to show. Some of my buyers use the measurements to draw it out for scale.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

They measure about 28mm in diameter with the tube gauge being about 2.5mm. The lion head is 13 x 6.5x5.5mm. Weight is 8.3 grams combined, they were more handsome to acquire due to this weight and sturdiness / quality.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces this is in estate condition. The hinges move side to side but this is how they were fabricated to allow you to move the wire into the mouth of the lion. Some tactile strength and precision is required since they open with tension and need to be firm enough to stay nested closed, but too much force could damage the hinge. This is not a fabrication issue in any way, as this is how all these earrings always are. It's nice that when closed they are secure. Some surface wear, a few deeper scratches in some areas on each, a tiny shallowest ripple here or there, all appropriate considering age and that they are preowned so this is as expected, but I don't really see any major damage and the wires and catches function well. Nice patina and wonderful coloring. But as with all my pre-owned pieces - Please note this is not a mint condition item.
