LOCKET Back Ring 18k Gold Quartz Rock Crystal Beveled Frame French Antique Georgian OPENS Hinged Compartment
LOCKET Back Ring 18k Gold Quartz Rock Crystal Beveled Frame French Antique Georgian OPENS Hinged Compartment
ABOUT:
Georgian era locket ring in 18k yellow gold (tested). The ring face is a compartment that has a little door/ panel on the back inside the ring face which swings open to hold a photo or small memento. It likely held a lock of hair at one time. I actually thing it is pretty to wear even empty as you get the chunky beveled rock crystal frame / cover pane that you can look through to the gold back. Such intricate fabrication and beautiful with the quartz crystal pane (not glass!). I also love the sleek 18k gold shoulders that almost have a satin finish from 200 years of uniform wear. Just a wonderful, soft sheen and glow.
Found in France. Note that this is a Very delicate piece - more details below.
Antique boxes, props, staircases and bannisters ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6 , The ring face is 7.8mm north to south, the little frame is 6x5mm. It weighs 2g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
This piece is sooo delicate. The shank has worn very thin at the back so what is there for gold is quite skinny. There are bends and loss to the north and south edges of the panel / door of the locket back with vacant space visible into the back of the ring. It does not snap or seal closed, just delicately closes. It does of course stay closed on the finger and the ripples and gaps are not visible while wearing but very intricate fabrication needs a very gentle hand.
Quite a lot of wear to the quartz crystal pane as well with matte finish to the beveled edge. Still transparent to the gold within. A delicate but special little treasure.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
