ABOUT:
Here is an impactful ring with its eye clean and fiery mix of antique old mine and brilliant cut diamonds totaling around 2.4 carats. This one is rare in that the center marquise diamond is an old cut - always fun to find old cuts in shapes other than round or cushion. It is flanked by a round old mine cut on each side with three brilliant cut diamonds completing the halo above and below.
Exceptional sparkle and gorgeous bright white color. With the mix of antique and more modern diamonds, It could be a case where grandma's older diamonds or stones from an heirloom piece were reset at a later time. I'm not sure when it was made but appears to be vintage.
The center marquise cut is raised in prongs while the outlining stones are set in demi bezels and bead prongs. The marquise diamond appears to have been touched up as it has a polished girdle now, the capability of which did not exist in the antique period. Crystal clear diamonds and while the old mine cuts reflect the light a bit differently, overall the stones appear very well matched in their vibrancy, color and fire. The later setting is a bonus making this beauty ready for regular wear! Love this one!
Found in France with a maker's mark and their 18k gold hallmark stamp. The piece is crafted in 18k yellow gold and topped in platinum or white gold. (They don't usually hallmark for that thin layer and I don't scratch test ring face tops for fear of damage.)
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 8, a little under.
I do not remove my stones from their settings for exact measurements but the center marquise diamond is about 8.5 by 4mm so around a half a carat. There are two larger old mine cuts on the right and left side measuring 5mm each, about .57 and .46 carat appearing the same to the eye but one with a deeper cut. The other six stones measure 3.2 to 3.5mm each. Estimated total carat weight for the piece is about 2.4 carats.
The piece weighs 6.05 grams. The ring face is 18 by 15mm. It stands 6.5mm off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The setting is sturdy and the diamonds are excellent. Bright and fiery, eye clean, well matching and not a nibble to be found. When I run my hand across the ring face, the marquise prongs do feel a bit blunt. This isn't a condition issue, but just how the piece was made. This piece is full of life and sparkle.
Please also note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
