ABOUT:

An amazing statement ring that is actually comfortable to wear! This mega French vintage old mine cut diamond and sapphire tank ring is extra in every way. With 3.8 carats in diamonds, it is large, sturdy, sparkly, and colorful! The ring face is nearly 1 inch east west by 3/4 inch north south to really draw the attention.

The gracefully curved rectangular ring face holds 22 chunky old mine cut diamonds, with two larger OMCs at center and then twenty in the halo surround which total the 3.8 carats in diamonds. These are spaced by two glowing true blue sugarloaf sapphires. Perhaps to represent a "toi et moi" / you and me setting with the amazing texture and glitter of all the antique diamonds.

Crafted in sturdy 18k gold and topped in platinum, the sides of the shank are flared to nest into the adjacent fingers making it quite comfortable to wear. This allows the boxiness of the ring face to splay out atop the finger to maximize its size, without making the shank over wide or making it spread the hand uncomfortably while wearing. Quite amazing fabrication and certainly high quality.

This may have been a custom made piece using older stones to assemble a statement piece in the retro period.

Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:

Currently measures about a size 7 3/4 to the center of the wide shank. Weighs a very sturdy 15.4 grams.
The ring face measures 24 by 18mm and stands 6.5mm tall off the finger at the center, and about 9.5mm tall to the top of the domed sugarloaf sapphires.
The sapphires are about 8x5.7mm with tall domed tops.
The two largest diamonds are about 4.8mm and around half a carat each with lofty crowns. The twenty others measure 2.8 to 3.3mm. I would not remove the stones for exact measurements but estimates to around 3.8 carats total weight in diamonds alone.

CONDITION NOTES:

A wonderful sheen and polish to the gold which shimmers and glows, topped with the vibrant platinum. The sapphires have a few nicks but a nice polish overall. Each has some natural inclusions which carry up to the surface leaving one tiny hairline crease on each stone which is polished over. This is not damage but a natural characteristic of the stones and is seen mostly under magnification.

Typical antique old mine cut diamonds - two display a lovely pale yellow color and the others have slight varying warmth. Also typical in that they have some natural inclusions. I see two of the smaller stones with carbon specks / silk lines. The others have frosty flecks, needle and wisp inclusions. These are eye visible with about half of the stones reading quite frosty overall. There are also some nicks and chips and frosty flakes of loss, but all the stones appear complete and full in shape aside from one of the smaller stones that has some loss to the girdle on the inside edge - this one is irregular in shape on that edge with the chips of loss, although it is masked some by the platinum top. They have fabulous chunky cuts to provide that special antique texture but you can detect the inclusions and warmth. The bead prongs look good, one of the larger stones can move slightly and click when you tap it but it is secure. But do note the antique old mine cuts do appear pre loved.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )

Please also also note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
