ABOUT:

Drama drama drama! This is a head turner for sure. Mega antique panel / lozenge ring in 18k gold with large ring face set with 20 rose cut diamonds in the center and surrounded by a gorgeous halo of natural rubies. The square / carre cut rubies vary slightly in hues from pink to red - something we often see (and enjoy!) when the rubies are natural, vs. when they are synthetic / man made and all match perfectly. Although I suspect a small number of them (3?) are synthetic due to their more vibrant color and clarity.

Ornate openwork cutouts to the underside of the ring face hold up the stones slightly and give the piece beauty from all angles. Because of the large size of the ring face, it is expertly curved to gracefully adorn the finger and make it more comfortable to wear.

Wonderful color, sparkle and texture. Antique piece from the early 1900s found in Spain. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm.

Antique box is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 6, the ring face is 28mm north to south by 15mm and 4.5mm tall of the finger. It weighs 5.9 grams.

Each of the twenty rose cuts are 2.5 to 3mm, a few are a little over 3mm. Estimated around 1.5 carat total weight in diamonds alone, just using measurements by millimeter for rose cuts.

Like most rose cuts they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. Rose cut diamonds are typically quite spready. So it is difficult to speculate on carat weight when we can’t determine depth without removing them from the setting, which I would never do. But if you were to compare the diameters to brilliant cut diamonds, this piece has the appearance of 2 carats.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Evidence of a sizing to the back with a slight difference in hue to the gold.

Typical antique rose cuts - because of their flat backs and smaller number of facets, the diamonds are easier to see through, so there are some eye visible frosty spots. There are small chips and shallow flakes of loss to about 6 of the diamonds. They still appear complete / round and fill the settings, but you can see the difference in texture when you study the surface or smooth undersides seeing the small unpolished area. As expected they are not all uniform in size or shape. These were hand cut and this is typically how they look so some of this may have always been that way from when the piece was fabricated. But beautiful untamed cuts with disco ball sparkle and nicely domed tops with that great antique look.

As mentioned varying hues to the rubies with three that are a more vibrant pink and may be synthetic. Surface wear to most of the rubies with nicks and nibbles under magnification but they do not appear dull or with a matte finish as the tables are still nicely polished to catch the light.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
