I take regularly scheduled inventory trips to Europe to offer you a selection of carefully curated antiques. These have all been hand picked one at a time and most are one of a kind.
ABOUT:
A Victorian moon brooch!
This one would make an awesome extender / connector or pendant with the wonderful glow of the rich antique 18k gold with hammered finish. This nice sized moon is set with 5 antique pearls. I could see this worn as a hair pin as well. Sturdy piece in a nice size, it could also be easily converted to a pendant with loops added to each side of the back to be worn in other orientations.
It has a repair at the catch which could be cleaned up if converted but I decided not to convert it because these are often incorporated into neck stacks as extenders and charm holders as seen in photos where I used one of my chains with dog clips to hook to each end. It makes for an awesome amulet to add other meaningful charms to the pin post. (Chain and other items are not included, listing is for pin alone). So I will leave it to the buyer to work with their local jeweler if they wish to convert it to a pendant permanently.
This is a French piece with goldsmith stamp on the pin post, crafted in 18k solid gold. The gold hallmark is missing since it would have originally been on the catch which was repaired but tested to confirm. Gorgeous French antique gold work where some of the areas of wear are a rosy gold. The piece reads as yellow gold but these nuances in patina are evidence of age and are sought after since it can not be found on modern gold pieces.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, hooks, chains, mice : ) not included. I just used some staging chains to show examples of how to wear.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is 3.5g. 29x27mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Perfect antique patina. As mentioned there is a repair to the catch where it was soldered with gray solder which spread into the filigree lattice underside of the pin. This is only seen when viewing the piece from the side or the back. Face up while wearing it is not visible. It is possible a jeweler could clean this up a bit if planning to do a conversion but please look for this in photos. The pin back is strong, functions well and there is no damage to the top of the piece.
Note that the pin back sticks out and currently prevents it from lying flat against the decollette but it can be worn to the side or with charms / pendants attached to the pin back, which can provide weight to pull the face of the pin upward and outward.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Thanks so much for looking at my items!
