ABOUT:
Star and Moon! Wonderfully sparkly Victorian era antique pendant set with old mine cut diamonds totaling 1 1/2 carat for an awesome figural sparkle. Nice footprint and sturdy hand feel with the striking celestial design, this one adds a lot of fun to a neckstack. Nineteen diamonds in all, four are raised in prongs - one in the center of the star and three in the moon. The background of the star is set with 15 additional chunky little old mine cuts for that great antique glitter. A few of the stones in the star are champagne in color, I just love finding these quirks in antique pieces with old cut stones. Little gold ball rivet details two faceted gold diamond shapes add design elements to the sturdy pendant.

Most of the old cut diamonds in the star have a single row of crown facets that are long and triangular scissor cuts with really high crowns. (Mine cuts typically have three rows of facets to the crown whereas these have the single row of long facets). Some are more square shaped but with the still softened cushion cut corners. Extra chunky with that great antique sparkle. Perhaps a combination of a French cut / Old Mine Cut ? as diamond cutters at the time used their personal knowledge, taste and expertise to enhance each diamond. These are sometimes mistakenly referred to as Peruzzi cuts but they are not, despite having some similar tendencies. It is always fun to find uniquely cut antique diamonds!

The pendant tests at 14k (no hallmarks remain) and the dog clip is stamped 10k. The piece came to me assembled in this way so I thought I'd sell it as such as the dog clip makes it nice and easy to add to any chain. This was apparently a brooch that was converted to a pendant with the dog clip added later, which explains the two carats of gold. The pendant was likely hallmarked on the pin parts that were removed when it was turned into a pendant.

Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos, especially with the zoomed images that I am required to present for detail.

MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is 11 grams. The piece measures about 30mm tall, and 49mm with the added dog clip adding to that height. It is 27mm wide and 8mm deep to the top of the raised diamond. It's about 5mm deep just measuring the thickness of the moon without adding the raised stones.

The largest diamond in the center of the star is 4.2mm and around .3 carat. The three in the moon are 2.7 to 3mm each. The fifteen in the star are 2 to 2.5mm each. I do not remove stones from their settings for exact carat weight but estimated carat weight is around 1.5 carat total diamond weight.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Typical antique diamonds with some faint natural inclusions and varying hues. They are great stones, none are dingy or lifeless and they don't have any dark carbon spots. Just a frosty speck here or there seen mostly under magnification. A worn prong here and there mostly to the raised stone in the center of the star but it is still held securely. Some nicks and nibbles here and there to the stones from age but again this is seen under magnification, to the eye they all appear complete.

If it looks like there is solder on the dog clip in the pictures, there is Not. It was just a little build up that I missed and easily cleaned away so it is gone now and appears the solid gold that it is, with the patina to the two pieces well matching.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
