ABOUT:

This was another popular one in previews. All original French antique old cut natural ruby ring that displays the most beautiful juicy berry purplish red color. It is surrounded by a halo 2.2 carats of bright white old European and transitional cut diamonds, the majority being eye clean for an amazing color and sparkle combination. The ruby also has a better than most clarity with no milkiness to it, just a richly hued and quite delicious coloring.

Found in Paris on my recent inventory trip. It is hallmarked with the French marks for 18k gold and platinum. A bit of height and depth to the basket setting with contrasting gold bezel for the ruby, surrounded by the diamond settings which are topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

I do not know the origin of the ruby aside from it being natural. My items do well without paperwork so I base them on what I paid as I prefer not to take apart antique pieces to send the stones off. I have some pieces in my personal collection where this was done and it resulted in damage to the stone so I sell them as set.

I most often see these super popular halo rings with sapphires at the center. A classic French design, I have a harder time finding them with rubies or emeralds so I was excited about this one. Larger scale than many I have had along with the nice carat weight of the bright and sparkly diamonds.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.

MEASUREMENTS:
Size 5 1/2. Still sturdy for sizing - Usually they say within 2 sizes is a guide but this could possibly handle more - something to discuss with the person doing the work.
The ruby measures 7.8x6.7mm. I can't get an accurate measurement without removing it but it is over 1.5 carat.

The north and south diamonds are the largest measuring about 4.6mm each, with a nice depth to them. Again I could not reach the back of the stones for a depth measurement but they are each around 0.4 carat. The other eight diamonds are about 3.5mm each for a total carat weight of about 2.2 carats in diamonds. Again this is an estimate as I would not remove them.

The piece weighs a sturdy 6.6 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Better than most color and clarity to the natural ruby with no milkiness, just some small crystals deeper within that can show a pretty iridescence under lit magnification - the rich hue of the stone does not allow this to be seen by the eye. The diamonds as well are above par for the period, bright white and sparkly, the majority being eye clean. No visible carbon, just the faintest speck inclusions. Some of what is seen is just a little bit of residue behind due to the hard to reach backs of the stones with the domed setting. The ruby has some flea bites and nibbles to the facets but overall a better than most sheen. They are not really seen in ambient light but more in direct light where they can catch the light to be visible.

Please note that I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights any surface wear, scratches, abrasions, buildup or inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lighting conditions help as they serve as part of the description.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
