ABOUT:
Another of my most popular styles that I try to source whenever I can find one - an antique natural sapphire and old mine cut diamond halo ring. This French early 1900s antique piece has a gorgeous true blue (even in low light) old cut natural sapphire at center. The twelve old mine cuts in the halo are surrounded by milgrain bezels and give the ring face a scalloped shape. They total just under one full carat total weight in antique diamonds. Nice size footprint on the finger and wonderful to wear as it has a low profile but a nice spread. The nice size sapphire is 6.3mm and shines at center with its beautiful color, also surrounded by a milgrain bezel.
I got this one in France, the ring bears their hallmark for 18k gold.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 8 1/2, slightly under. The piece weighs 3.5 grams.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones from the setting but it is estimated at nearly one full carat total weight in diamonds. The diamonds in the halo each measure 2 to 3mm each with chunky cuts. The sapphire is about 6.3x5.3mm.
Stands 3.6mm off the finger, the ring face is 12x15mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The sapphire has a fabulous, bright true blue color and nice sheen and polish. Few to no facet abrasions which are usually expected for a piece of this age, but there are three tiny chips on the edge, each tucked under the bezel and seen more under magnification but can catch the light if you are looking for them. Some natural inclusions to the old cut sapphire. On the underside of the ring there is a circular chip and some nibbles to the open culet. It's possible the chip is a result of a natural inclusions that was polished over. Of course not really evident when wearing since it is inside the ring face unless in bright direct light it can catch the light almost like an underside facet.
These are typical antique diamonds, most all reading quite frosty from natural inclusions. There is not a lot of dark carbon to them but really some frostiness to note where the inclusions can catch the light. A few have a very slight warmth. I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights the warmth, and inclusions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description. You should be able to detect all this in the photos and videos as they are true to life. Some of the diamonds have a nick or nibble here or there but they all appear complete and fill the bezels. Most of my buyers prefer gentler wear and original antique condition and I would recommend that here as I would most all my antiques holding multiple small stones. The ring face is topped in white gold or platinum as was customary for the period (I prefer not to scratch test such a small area around the stones). There are two spots that have a yellow gold glow around one of the north south diamonds. I do not know if there was a repair there or if this was done during fabrication. Timeless piece with wonderful color and sparkle - I love this one, despite its antique quirks..
