ABOUT:
Another of my most popular styles that I try to source whenever I can find one - an antique natural sapphire and old mine cut diamond halo ring. This French Victorian / Edwardian era antique piece is a chubby oval shape with smooth bezels holding the sapphire and the halo of diamonds. The old cut natural sapphire at center has a fabulous true blue color that glows from within even in ambient light. The twelve old mine cuts in the halo total around 1 full carat total weight in antique diamonds. Nice size footprint on the finger and wonderful to wear as it has a low profile but a nice spread. The nice size sapphire is about 6mm and shines at center, surrounded by a yellow gold bezel, whereas the diamonds are set in silver as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.
I had a dealer friend in Paris once tell me that these are among the most popular ring styles in France where they prefer the more subtle sapphire color over more vibrant gemstones like rubies and emeralds or large diamonds. I have found in my years of selling that they are very sought after here as well!
Found in Paris, with French hallmarks for 18k gold and silver on the beautiful knife edge shank.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 6 1/2. The piece weighs 3.8 grams.
Exact carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones from the setting but the twelve diamonds are each 2.7 / 2.8mm with a few closer to 2.5mm. Estimated around 1 full carat total weight in diamonds. The sapphire is about 6.5x6mm.
Stands 4.2mm off the finger, the ring face is 14x12.5mm.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. The sapphire has a fabulous color and nice sheen and polish. Some tiny scuffs and scratches, as expected for a piece of this age, but they are only very slightly eye visible with normal wear so it is not heavily abraided and does not have a dull or matte finish whatsoever. There is a scratch to one of the outside facets of the sapphire that you can see if you are study the surface in a reflection of light but it is much less evident with normal wear. I take some photos / videos in the sunshine because it captures the lovely color and sparkle, but it also highlights the abrasions that can catch the light, making these things appear worse than they would with normal day to day wear. : ) Hopefully the pics in all lightning conditions help as they serve as part of the description. Natural linear silk / needle rutile inclusions within the sapphire. Under lit magnification they can catch the light and reflect out almost like a star sapphire but with just linear needles of glow instead of the starburst shape. This is not as apparent with normal wear in ambient light. There is also a natural icier inclusion within the stone that can catch the light but it is more evident in direct sunshine while off the finger. It is a very beautiful natural stone. Typical antique diamonds with some other faint frosty speck inclusions, no dark carbon spots. Some read warm to gray but the piece still has a lovely sparkle. You should be able to detect all this in the photos and videos as they are true to life. No nicks or chips or damage to any of the diamonds. Some light wear to the prongs as expected for an antique piece in original condition - something to keep an eye on over time but none of the stones move. There is a seam / line to the back of the shank from a sizing. Timeless piece - I love this one.
Shank is very sturdy. But Due to age - please note this is not a mint condition item.
