ABOUT:
"Oh to be an E!!!" I have literally been walking around my house all week saying this! I love antique figural and initial jewelry and this is among the best I've found just because it is so large scale and has such an amazing glittery sparkle. And the most fabulous antique look. I wish it was my letter but alas, she is available for some special "E" out there.
Apologies that it is dark today in dear Minnesota so I can't show this glitter bomb to its full potential but will update the video if it remains available and the sun comes out : )
So... My initial plan was to remove the completely diamond encrusted ornate "E" and turn it into a show stopping pendant, but then as I spent some time with it, I found that I loved that ornate scrolling bracket to the east and west side, especially when held up to my wrist or when connected to a chain, so I decided to sell it as is and leave it to the buyer to decide if they want to wear it as a brooch or a connector, or to convert it permanently, with or without the ornate frame, by adding a loop to the center, a loop to each side connected to a chain, etc. A lot of fun options with this one.
Completely encrusted with little diamonds, I lost count at 75 - there are seven larger old mine cut diamonds in open back settings, three each at the top and bottom and one at the center, amidst all the other rose cuts of varying sizes perfectly tapering and set into the sweeping scrolling parts of the E. The rose cuts are in closed back settings.
This piece appears to have been converted to a brooch from something else. The E is crafted in 14k gold and has a rich and warm antique patina. The scrolling details appear on the back like a bracket to connect the pin post. These test at 10k and are in rosier colored gold. All this is visible more from the back of the piece than with normal wear or viewing from the front. No hallmarks remain so I tested the varying parts a few times.
Fabulous to wear.
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos, mice ; ) not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Carat weight is unknown as I would not remove the stones and the depths vary. The rose cut stones measure 1.2 to 2.6mm each. The larger old mine cuts are 2.6 to 3.5mm each. At least a couple carats face up appearance with the 75+ stones but again impossible to say exactly.
It measures 30mm top to bottom (1.2 inch tall) by 42mm east west. It weighs a very sturdy 9.8 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
I see two tiny diamond chips missing but in this case they are so small that I decided to sell it as is rather than risk a repair and create a glaring spot with a different patina. I honstly couldn't detect this with my eyes and discovered it when studying it under magnification because the vacant settings are so small and match the rest of the piece in patina. I'm sure some a chip could be secured in with adhesive if desired but I don't have any small enough.
Typical old rose cut diamonds with some inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, likely have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. They are small so this is not really visible to the eye, they just add a nice little glint of sparkle. They do have an overall warm to gray sparkle from the closed back setting which again, they always tend to look this way with a moodier sparkle. The old mine cuts appear brighter and whiter with their larger size and open backs.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - PDue to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
