ABOUT:
I'm trying to think if I've ever had an antique signet with the engraved coat of arms that was inset with diamonds. I believe this is a first.
Heavy, fine quality and unique oval signet crafted in 18k gold. It has a shield on the front with a helmet, a tree and the initials "D L" in reverse so that the ring could be used as a wax seal. Around the outside are seven old mine cut diamonds set into star shaped bezels to add a real uniqueness to the piece with both the design and added sparkle.
Very sturdy hand feel weighing 13 grams of solid 18k gold with solid back (not hollowed out to reduce weight). Also a large presence on the finger with the ring face measuring 21mm north south (0.8 inch) by 12mm wide.
A wonderful Victorian French antique ring with a lot of fun details and a striking graphic. The 18k antique gold work with a rich buttery glow. Hallmarked on the back of the shank with a goldsmith stamp and a partial / worn gold mark.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
MEASUREMENTS:
The ring is a size 5 3/4 on my mandrel. I think it fits around a 5 1/2 with the large surface area of the ring face displacing the finger.
21mm x 12mm, weight of 13 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
The diamonds read warm to gray because they are set into the thick gold without any openings behind them to allow the light to pass. Typical antique diamonds with some faint frosty natural inclusions. A few nicks and one has several small chips in one area but it still appears complete in the setting / fully round. The stones are small so it is seen mostly under magnification or if you are studying it up close looking for it.
Surface wear and scratching commensurate with age and wear, especially on the signet face around the designs, which can catch the light and be made more notable due to the shiny mirrored finish there.
A shallow ding at about 1 o'clock to the edge which has caused slight ripple there - please look for this in photos.
A fabulous and unique piece, feels amazing on the hand.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : ) There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings including the green trees out the window.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
