ABOUT:
I'm always looking for old cut diamonds in yellow gold and this one is an elegant Art Deco period, classic four pronged setting. There is a little coin edge detail on each of the tapered shoulders to add a little texture to the setting. So pretty! These lead up to the .85 carat old European cut diamond that is propped up in tall white gold prongs. This lovely contrast using white gold was customary for the period to set the diamond in a white metal. So it can stack with really any color diamond band and the height assists with that as well.
In my own collecting, I don't prioritize the Four C's scale for antique stones as the scale was created much later for machine cut stones with mathematically perfected facets. The rules don't really apply well to antiques, but I will pass along the grades as they were given to me of VS2 for clarity and I in color (near colorless). See more notes below as my diamond write ups always give more detail than a letter grade can provide.
The prongs are in excellent shape making this one ready for regular wear as an engagement ring. The stone is prong set at each of the four corners.
Stamped 14k inside the shank with the maker's mark of Jabel, an American jewelry company founded in New Jersey in 1916.
Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
A snug size 6. It stands 7mm tall off the finger. It weighs 2.6 grams.
I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements but the diamond measures about 6mm and an estimated weight of .85 carat.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All antique hand cut diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time. This one even more special in that it is completely eye clean with only the smallest speck inclusions seen under strong magnification. No damage to the stone at all. No strong warmth to the stone either and a nice rainbow fire. A lively stone in its original Art Deco setting.
Ready for daily wear which is hard to find in older vintage pieces.
It's beautiful.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
