ABOUT:

Rare, wonderful and romantic antique wedding band. This one of a kind piece was crafted with his and hers wedding rings that were connected together to create one wider band that was smoothed over at the top. This is a French piece, dated for 1931 with the corresponding set of initials on each band: "A.A. á A.P" and "A.P. á A.A." Which indicates one set of initials "to" the other set, both hand engraved by the same engraver for the wedding date. They also both have the date "18 Août 1931" - again French for August 18, 1931. I can't decipher the initials for sure but can make out the "to" / "á" and the date. I wish I knew the stories this piece could tell but a lovely provenance.

The fabrication is interesting because you can see the two skinny bands inside with their engravings, and then another strap of gold connecting them. They somehow then smoothed and connected the top side so that it looks like a wide band, without losing the engravings on the inside. It has a very organic form - still perfectly round with nice sturdiness to it, but there is a slight and soft oval bevel to it at the face, almost like a signet, so it appears slightly beveled. The shank tapers slightly towards the back but remains quite wide all the way around.

Size 8. It is 7.2mm north south on the finger at the face. It weighs 5.3 grams. Would be beautiful in a ring stack, but substantial enough to wear alone.

No hallmarks remain which is common for French pieces as they are marked in the back and often lost during a sizing or from wear. But sold to me from a reputable source in France where the standard is 18k and tested to confirm.

CONDITION:

A bit of a blunt edge from wear but still quite sturdy and not thin and flexible. Surface wear that can catch the light due to the mirrored finish. There is also a cloudy spot on one side that can catch the light like a difference in texture, almost like it occurred when the heat was used to connect them. I would think it will soften with time. Organic form from two rings and extra gold being connected together.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

There are no dark spots to the gold, it was just difficult to photograph because it is so shiny and mirrored that it reflects its surroundings.
