Original Bowed Witch's HEART Victorian ANTIQUE Ring Pink Red Ruby Garnet Rose Cut DIAMOND 14k Gold Figural
Original Bowed Witch's HEART Victorian ANTIQUE Ring Pink Red Ruby Garnet Rose Cut DIAMOND 14k Gold Figural
ABOUT:
Awesome all original antique double witch's heart figural ring with a halo of old rose cut diamonds and a little diamond encrusted bow on top. Such a romantic piece! Crafted in 14k gold with the ring face topped in silver as was customary for the period.
These heart shapes were ever popular during the Victorian era and symbolized love, protection, loyalty, etc. and were used at times during a betrothal. The witch's heart description refers to the flared, slightly curved bottom of the hearts and the stones are custom cut to match!
This is a personal collection release that I had purchased in Paris. It is hallmarked for 14k gold and silver.
I often see modern reproduction rings of this design but this one is an actual all original Victorian era antique and was always a ring. Always great to find an antique piece in its original condition!
Wonderful figural design with sweet details at each shoulder and the two custom cut pinkish purplish red gemstones - one a garnet and one a ruby. I wonder if the stones were chosen intentionally to represent two parts of a couple? Or if the jeweler at the time used whatever stones they had available to them and chose the best color match? As they do look quite similar to the eye while wearing. Gorgeous juicy berry coloring.
Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
A slightly snug size 6 1/4. The ring face is 14x12mm. It weighs 2.9 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Dark patina to the silver. A few nibbles to the garnet being a softer stone than the ruby which also has one nick but less surface wear over all. Slightly differing hues to the garnet and ruby but this is more noticeable when held up to the light than with normal wear. Typical antique rose cuts with some natural inclusions, rough edges, small nibbles and frosty spots, much of this may have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. Some warm to gray hues, they are open backed. These always need gentler wear due to the many small stones and old prongs but I did have this one checked by a jeweler to make sure everything looked stable. But this one especially with all the tiny diamonds individually set in the antique setting - it needs gentler handling as expected for a piece of this age in original condition.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
