ABOUT:
Of all the ring requests I receive, the old mine cut cluster is the one in highest demand. And this one is quite sweet with a lovely sparkle from the 9 old mine cuts totaling around .9 carat total weight in diamonds. In the classic French cluster setting with raised shoulders, each set with a rose cut diamond for added sparkle
Found in France with French hallmark for 18k gold used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued by the very early 1900s. The ring face is topped in platinum as was customary for the period to set the diamonds in a white metal (it was thought to increase their brilliance). They didn't hallmark back then for the contrasting tops but we know it is platinum since the piece was made before white gold reached prominence in the 1920s.
A timeless classic!
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 3/4, slightly snug.
The center diamond is 3.2mm. The eight outlining diamonds are about 2.7 to 3.1mm each give or take. I do not remove the stones from the setting for exact carat weight and depths vary but estimates to around .9 carat total weight in diamonds.
Ring face: 12x9mm
Height off finger: 5.5mm tall.
Weight: 4g.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Typical antique diamonds with some faint frosty inclusions, two are quite frosty all the way through from the reflections of the inclusions, the others rather just a slightly visible to very slightly visible speck here or there. One has a smattering of tiny carbon specks seen under magnification. Also typical for antiques, a slight warm to gray hue.
Center prongs are excellent. Two stones have an outside prong that is worn back so something to keep an eye on over time. I generally do not recommend my 125+ year old pieces with multiple stones for daily wear unless reinforced, but this would need very little as we always want to do the minimum to keep it in original condition and not overwork the piece.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
