ABOUT:

A special larger scale pansy ring set with chunky and uncommonly eye clean old mine cut diamonds totaling around .85 carat, along with old cut rubies and emeralds. Unique coloring with the added sparkle makes this ring really pop. I love figural floral jewelry and especially pansies, the first pieces I began collecting were figural floral pieces such as this one. This one is quite special with the oval and cushion cut diamonds having really chunky cuts with lofty crowns. It adds that wonderful antique sparkle and texture, and is fun to view the stones from the side. I also love seeing all the open culets to the stones, verifying their "antique-ness" in the hand cut qualities.

Additional mouth watering details include the delicate hand engravings at each shoulder and also to the gold work underneath the stone settings. So again when you view the piece from the side, not only do you see the chunky old cut gemstones, but also the engraved texture to the vertical edges of the gold settings, along with the engravings on the top side view. So many wonderful details.

The pansy flower was used in Victorian times as a symbol of remembrance. The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, "thought". It universally meant "think of me," so it would also serve as a very thoughtful or romantic gift or memorial item.

Found in England. No hallmarks remain but sold to me as 18k and tested to confirm.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.
Antique box not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size: 5 1/4 , a little over but does not reach 5 1/2. Looking at the oval shape, I think it was sized down in the past and could likely be sized up some by rounding out the shank. Best to check with your local jeweler for sizing advice to be safe. Since everyone's skills and opinions are different, especially when it comes to modern jewelers working on antiques. Sometimes you can text or email them photos of the item for feedback.
The ring face is 13mm north south and the pansy is 12.5mm east west. It stands 3.9mm tall off the finger.
It weighs 4.5g with a sturdy hand feel.

The largest diamond is 5mm oval, about .3 carat, the other two are 4.3 and 4.1mm. I would not remove the stones for an exact measurement but estimated carat weight for the diamonds is around .85 carat.

CONDITION NOTES:

The right side emerald is cracked. There are chips around the crack making the surface of the emerald uneven. Since emeralds are often quite frosty with natural inclusions, and the stone faces out to the side, it is not incredibly apparent. The stone appears to be stable, held into the bezel, although it is possible it may loosen over time if it is banged so gentler wear is advised. The other side emerald has a chip to the surface but is complete in shape, filling the setting and is not cracked through, but again an uneven surface. The center emerald and rubies have some nibbles and facet abrasions but nothing major. The diamonds are excellent with no chips or cracks and they are eye clean with no visible inclusions, even under magnification they are quite clean and clear. The largest stone displays a slight warmth compared to the other two but this is seen more under magnification and close studying.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
