ABOUT:
Wonderful French regional antique ring 18k gold, decorated with a pansy highlighted with blue, green and white enamel. Floral details at each shoulder as well. Beautiful antique rosy and buttery gold patina. This Paris find is a personal favorite of mine as I love floral and especially pansy jewelry.
May have also been a mourning piece or just a romantic token with the pansy design. The pansy flower was used in Victorian times as a symbol of remembrance. The name "pansy" is derived from the French word pensée, "thought". It universally meant "think of me," so it would also serve as a very thoughtful or romantic gift.
Antique box is not included.
Some loss to the enamel on one side panel with the oval which also has a shallow impression that looks like a ripple. (For the enamel, I've heard of people using a tiny sharpie pen to fill in the low relief area to darken the image, this is not a permanent solution and would need to be re-done occasionally but it is less intense than enamel repair.) Shank is a bit blunt on the edge from the thin gold but I would think it could still be sized at the back (best to check with the person who would be doing the work). Lovely patina.
HALLMARKS:
Illegible hallmark with correct counterstrike inside the shank, but sold to me as 18k which is the standard in France and tested to confirm.
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 10 1/2. Ring face is 6.3mm north to south, It weighs 2.3 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any glaring issues above and they are all still wearable.
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
