PANSY "Pensée a Moi" Think of Me Blue Green Black Enamel Vine Floral Pendant French Georgian 18k Gold
ABOUT:
Stock drop of some fun figural antique pieces, several of these are personal collection releases that I have enjoyed! : )
Wonderful French traditional antique pendant with a secret romantic or friendship message. The intricate artwork inside depicts a pansy. Being a French piece, the flower is actually named "pensee" in French, which is also the French word that translates to "Thought", Below the flower we see the words in French "a moi" So combining the flower and the text portrays the message "Think of me."
The flower seems to be fabricated out of hair work or perhaps some other natural product like wood grain or sepia, etc., set amidst an outline of black and metallic gold enamel. It is sealed within the pendant with the closed back and the outlining gold halo has gorgeous vine detail inlaid with green and blue enamel.
I love jewelry with words and flowers and this one gives you both!
Found in France. No hallmarks remain but tests at 18k gold which is the standard there. This antique piece is from the Georgian to very early Victorian period. Really intricate detail and a fabulous antique look, like something you would see in a period piece movie.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Some of my buyers "draw out" an example to get an idea of scale in person.
Antique Boxes, props, chains, mice : ) not included. I just laid it over my staging chain to show examples of how to wear.
MEASUREMENTS:
Weight is 2.1 grams, it measures 25mm to the attached loop x17mm
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
There are some scratches to the crystal cover pane and some build up inside which makes the image a bit muted. Depending on the lighting, the color and detail can stand out more in some conditions than others but we are talking about a 200 year old piece that is whole and legible so all things considered, she is a fun one to wear. One pic looks like the glass is cracked but it is a scratch. Some wear to the enamel which is a bit muted but shows more color in direct light. A few dings to the back, a shallow impression or a ripple here or there but no holes. My heart breaks to let this one good.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
Striking to wear with the figural shape.
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
