ABOUT:

Halo rings are always very popular in my shop but this one is made even more special by the alternating larger pear shaped diamonds set east west across the center. The center of the ring face is an illusion setting with rose cut diamond spacers to give the ring face a nice texture and chunky sparkle. The halo of carre cut sapphires adds a wonderful pop of color. Note that two sapphires are missing and there is adhesive residue. Please see important condition notes below. There are additional rose cuts set into each shoulder for an added glint of sparkle. It has a beautiful openwork gallery with scrolling details underneath the ring face making it attractive from all sides.

These are scarce and sought after for a few reasons - the first is that all antique hand cut antique diamonds of course have a more limited supply since they are no longer made in this way. There are only so many in existence compared to the millions of carats of modern machine cut diamonds made every year. These have withstood the test of time.

The second is the shape - we most often see old mine cuts in cushion or round shapes so it's fun to find three nice sized pears. So putting the old hand cut together with the pear shape makes the piece even more scarce. Which is why I purchased it, despite its imperfections in the halo.

Antique box not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

HALLMARKS:
French hallmark for 18k gold. The shank has a rosy patina.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

It is a size 7, slightly over but does not reach 7 1/4.

Each of the pear diamonds measure 5 to 5.5mm by 3 to 3.5mm. Total diamond weight is around 1 carat with the pears measuring around .3 carat each and with the additional accents.

The ring face is 16x12mm and 4.3mm off the finger.

It weighs 3.3 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are preowned and in estate condition. Sadly the halo is imperfect. Two of the carre cut sapphires are missing and there is visible adhesive in those two spots. Looking inside the back of the ring face I can see some traces of solder but the backs of the sapphires are mostly hidden so I can't see to what extent it was flooded with adhesive to secure them - if it is just in the vacant spaces, or in other areas as well. Sorrows sorrows, but we see this sometimes on pieces of this age. I don't have any replacement stones and it would be cost prohibitive for me to have them custom cut so I am selling the piece as is, since I typically don't scrap antiques if at all avoidable. The value is in the three pears and fortunately there are no issues with those rarer shaped old mine cuts. No adhesive behind them and they are nicely set. Typical for antique diamonds - The center pear has a warmer hue than the other two and some tiny carbon ink specks. The others are brighter white and eye clean with just one small round flake of loss to one edge of one stone, hidden somewhat against the setting since it is right on the edge, and only slightly eye visible if you are seeking it out. Again sold as is as I am not sure what it would take to make it like new, which would be something to discuss with your local jeweler who would be doing the work. The rose cuts are also typical for age, rough cut shards with frosty spots, irregular edges, etc.

Thanks so much for looking at my items!
