ABOUT:

My sweet friend (who sourced this for me) and I are both just over the moon for this one. I love all old cut diamonds but it is so fun to find them in shapes outside of round. And as someone who looks at antique jewelry every day, it's difficult to find these especially in this size. She's a special one!

Here we have a 2 carat (approx) antique pear old mine cut diamond in a foiled and closed back vintage setting. It is bright and reflective, a nice shooter of rainbows with open culet at the center and a sort of chubby cut compared to some of the more narrow pear cuts we sometimes see. Even with the closed and foiled back you can see that awesome old cut! The antique stone appears to have been re-set in the retro vintage period with a bezel setting that is foil backed with a rope detail outline below. It is stamped 14k on the back and it tests true to that as well. The back center of the pendant is white gold compared to the rest of the yellow gold so it is possible they set the diamond over a white gold backing and there is no sheet of foil, it is difficult to say definitively as I did not want to take it apart.

Please feel free to request more videos (easy to send through instagram) as I have several videos in all lighting and it gives a more true to life look, compared to the photos which seem to catch a lot of reflections that aren't prevalent in real life.

Sturdy and ready to wear as is, but I couldn't help but dream away about this stone, I could see it as a very impactful ring, see photos for how that would look, and of course that would be at the buyers own risk. I thought long and hard about keeping it as I'm sure I'll not find another of this size and scale any time soon but it isn't a good time for me to be keeping all the best stuff so here she is on offer.

Estimated to be around 2 carats. Exact carat weight is not possible to calculate as with the closed back setting there is no way of measuring the depth and I didn't want to destroy the setting by removing it when it is so wearable as is, so this is a best estimate. It does appear to be on the spreadier side, facing up a bit larger than the 2 carats. Just measuring the stone while set, it is about 9.8mm by 8.4mm.

Bezel is in good shape so it is ready for regular wear! No damage.

Antique box / props not included. Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

MEASUREMENTS:
See above for the diamond.
The piece including the setting is 15.7x12.3mm with the gold surround. If you add the height of the bale it is 20mm top to bottom. The setting is 4.5mm deep, depth of the stone is unknown.
The pendant weighs 2.4 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

Very nice sparkle and a bright color. We do see a bit of a gray reflection in some lights, typical for closed and foil backed settings but it is a lively and bright piece. Because it appears to have been crafted in the vintage period, the foil is white and reflective, not muddy or rusty. We can see a few cloudy spots to the foil (or white gold) back under magnification but it is quite attention grabbing, bright and sparkly while worn, and shoots rainbows in various lighting conditions.

There is a crease looking crystal inclusion within the stone, it is below the culet and you should be able to seek it out in the pictures and video. This can catch the light and be eye visible but is otherwise not glaring. There are also some tiny carbon specks but these are seen only under magnification and are not eye visible. They are very small and scattered so there is no concentrated area of carbon and nothing glaring, no dark or inky spots. I can also see some frosty spots under magnification that may be a rough edge to the stone? This does not show while wearing and it faces up clear with the large open culet also appearing crisp and clear and without damage, but I can see reflections of something when I study it at angles within the setting under magnification so just describing everything I see. Being in the closed setting we aren't able to see all the edges of the stone so it may also be just something in the setting reflecting. It appears clean and tidy overall. The stone has no visible nicks, nibbles or chips of any kind.

My items do very well without paperwork as the four C's scale does not apply well to antique diamonds, having been cut in much more limited supply. I have not sent the stone for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.

There is a shallow linear impression on the back of the gold right up against the outside edge, not at all visible while wearing and actually appears to have been done in the fabrication of the piece.

No real damage. The setting is sturdy. Ready for regular wear.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

I dearly love, collect, use and sell antiques so please check out my other listings and thanks so much for stopping by my shop!
