Perpignan GARNET Antique STUD Earrings French 18k GOLD Rose Cut Stud Collet Set Screw Back Victorian Hallmark

FAVORITE gemstone alert! Aside from the wonderful color and inner glow of these special gems, these versatile stud earrings bear the French Victorian era hallmark for 18k gold used primarily in the 1800s and discontinued by 1918 to confirm age and antique-ness ; ) of the piece.

These are deep ripe berry purplish color with a pinkish reddish inner glow from within. They are set in a minimalist collet setting with closed and foiled back, the customary fabrication for these French antique garnet pieces.

These garnet are named as such for the region where they were mined in the South of France. They are known for their beautiful color and brilliance, along with the way the stones were cut. These mines have long since closed making them quite collectible and favored by many (me me me!!!). In olden times Perpignan Garnets were thought to cure blood disorders and excessive anger, and symbolized constancy and loyalty.

Please note the measurements. I always include them in each listing but people tend to miss them - I have to show zoom photos for detail which can make it hard to determine scale.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:

5.5mm diameter. Pair weighs just 1 gram combined.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

As with all my pieces these are pre-owned and in estate condition. Some surface wear to the stones but a lovely glowing color, sheen and polish. Some build up and antique patina, these shoulda avoid getting wet. Both screw backs function perfectly and screw securely, but one screws in closer to the earring than the other one and has a bit of an uneven area there on the post. No issues visible when wearing them, and no issues in how they function, I just noticed the one didn't screw as closely to the stud.  The one screw back is a bit uneven to the gold on the inside, like it may have had a reinforcement ? it is as seen in photos. But again not visible while wearing.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
