Perpignan GARNET French GEORGIAN Antique 18k Gold Rolo Chain Dangle Drop Pendants

ABOUT:
These antique Perpignan Garnets top my list of all time favorite gemstones. Their delicious berry wine coloring, light reflectivity and beautiful glow from within just make them so special and just so appealing to me.

This gorgeous glowing 18k gold antique chain is from the late Georgian to Victorian era with the goal backed garnets in closed back collet settings. This one has the added versatility of adding additional charms from the loops on the garnet settings if desired. There are three garnets set into the chain, one on each side and one at center. And again at the center three linear dangle drop pendants. Three of the garnets have those little loops down at the bottom that could be nipped off by your local jeweler if desired, or used to add additional charms to build your own neck mess. The chain has the old rolo belcher style link.

This is an antique piece that I acquired in France. French hallmark on the spring ring for 18k gold.

These garnet are named as such for the region where they were mined in the South of France. They are known for their beautiful color and brilliance, along with the way the stones were cut. These mines have long since closed. In olden times Perpignan Garnets were thought to cure blood disorders and excessive anger, and symbolized constancy and loyalty.

Any props, chains not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos..

MEASUREMENTS:
17 1/2 inches, the gauge of the chain is 1.8mm.
Weight: 8.1g.
The garnets are 4 to 4.5mm each.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some patina to the spring ring but correctly hallmarked. The jump rings connecting the clasp have a rosier hue. A few tiny nibbles and some natural inclusions to the garnets but amazing coloring. The chain can twist sometimes while wearing but the domed backs of the gem settings are also lovely. Love to find the garnets set into the chain in this way making it a unique piece.

Typical antique rose cuts with age to the foil back giving them warm to gray hues. It has a great antique look. Is it just me or does the bottom of the cross list to the left a bit? Typical antique rose cuts with natural inclusions and some frosty spots. Also some darker spots either inclusions or again age to the closed back.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
