ABOUT:
This pretty in pink number is from my personal collection. I already regret releasing it because I can say with confidence I won't find another like this in this condition. The condition of the stone and the original Georgian era foil back is just excellent. And it is a larger scale stone than we usually see as wel.
This was one an antique brooch that I had converted to a pendant. It is excellent that it was once a brooch because it was rarely worn compared to many of the other 200 year old pieces from the period that show more scuffs and abrasions to the old gemstones. This one is shiny and glossy and it apparently never got wet because the foil is still quite reflective with no rust or muddy spots that we often see.
We do know it's antique though and not a modern reproduction due to the fabrication and patina. Also - If you really look into the setting you can see the open culet of the old cut stone, cut long before synthetic stones were ever invented, which is always fun to find.
The collet set old cut natural topaz is quite a striking stone in the foiled domed back setting in the larger size. It has the loveliest pastel pink hue with the reflective back sending out light from within.
Found in the UK. No hallmarks remain, it tests at 10k gold.
Antique Boxes, props, hooks, chains, mice : ) not included. Please note the measurements as it is difficult to determine scale from the photos.
MEASUREMENTS:
The setting measures 15.8mm in diameter not including any of the loops or jump ring. It weighs 3.7 grams.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Varying antique patina to the gold back but I always ask my jewelers not to polish because I prefer the old patina. It has a lovely rosiness. Some metal straps remain from the pin parts and where they were connected.
Amazing condition considering age of over 200 years. The stone has really no abrasions and only the faintest surface wear. Under magnification you can see some of the rougher spots of the girdle edge because it was cut before modern technology, nothing eye visible as it is tucked right up and under the collet setting. Some faint cloudy spots when you look through the stone to the backing with magnification but no dark rust. Beautiful color, sought after Georgian cut down collet fabrication and the most beautiful color. Domed back so it can teeter on the decollette but it's beautiful to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I would be delighted if you'd follow me in my shop. Thanks for stopping by!
