ABOUT:
Swoon! The details!!!! My mom and I just fell in love with this one when we saw it in Sweden. I was initially on the fence due to cost so I showed it to her, her eyes widened and she was like, "Um... yeah.... obviously.... you must get it." So I guess for her it was a no brainer. She proceeded to wear it during the trip so you may remember it in my stories amidst some gorgeous ruffly salmon colored flowers : ) I'll include the pic in my website listing as a throwback - tee hee!
Seriously you guys, this one is so beautiful. At first I didn't realize it but as mom and I studied it, we realized it was a wedding set, now permanently connected inside the shank for wear as a single piece.
The solitaire with ornate basket setting was the original engagement ring, with the wedding ring wrap that it nests into adding those diamond encrusted leaf designs on the north and south ends at each shoulder. The setting somehow makes the diamond look even bigger. The little glints of sparkle seem to shoot out from all over the piece, since the face is so diamond encrusted. But even all that can't take away from that glorious eye clean and fiery old cut center stone.
The center diamond, the star of the show, is a 7mm, approximately 1.3 carat old European cut diamond. It is set in a crown like setting with little triangular prongs holding it up on all sides, each prong adorned with a little single cut diamond. Additional single cuts encrust the graceful curves of each shoulder and then there is an additional single cut on the north and south ends of the center ring setting. Next we move on to the wedding band with sets of leaves forming each side of the wrap, which of course are also diamond encrusted. So it sparkles from all angles with additional delicate swirling openwork scroll details to the gallery.

I don't prefer to grade my antique diamonds with the Four C's grading scale which came about way later for machine cut diamonds with mathematically perfected facets. The scale does not do antique stones justice as they were expertly hand cut in a much more limited supply compared to the millions of carats of machine cut diamonds made each year now. Their uniqueness and quirks are expected and part of their charm, but I will pass along the grades as I received them, as evaluated by the onsite gemologist. (I do not remove my stones from their antique settings as my items do well without paperwork so this information is approximate.) They graded the color as Top Cape, which translates to K in color in the GIA scale. I would say this is visible in only some lighting conditions as it faces up quite brightly. They gave it a VS2 in clarity which aligns as it is completely eye clean.
Really a fine quality antique stone, fiery and wonderful to find the setting ready for daily wear. This would make a special engagement ring, anniversary or right hand statement ring or a great stacker with nice height and sturdy shoulders.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures. Antique box is not included.
MEASUREMENTS:
As mentioned, the center stone is about 7mm and measuring about 1.3 carat alone. The setting is encrusted with a further 30 single cut diamonds, totaling approximately an additional .4 carat as sold to me. For a total carat weight of approximately 1.7 carats.
The piece weighs 5.05 grams and measures between an 8 1/2 to an 8 3/4.
Ring face is 9.5mm north south and 6mm tall off the finger to that glorious basket setting.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
As mentioned this used to be a set that was soldered. None of this is visible while wearing so it is not a solder in the sense of a repair, but rather the textbook connecting of wedding bands and engagement rings to wear as a single ring. On the outside you can see the three bands, but the inside has been smoothed and connected so the engagement and wedding pieces do not come apart. Again no evidence of solder while wearing.
The center diamond is fabulous with the tiniest speck here or there only under strong magnification, it's a magnificent stone. Typical antique single cuts that are small and meant to add a glint of sparkle. Most are clear, a few a bit frosty, one has a little notch to one edge but it is secure in the setting and not really seen while wearing. Some wear to the setting. The center stone is very well held and ready for daily wear. The setting with the many little stones set with bead prongs may need gentler wear due to age but in the case of antique jewelry, we usually deal with things as they come, the importance being the center diamond ready for daily wear. Such a special one, I will always think of it! : )
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
I enjoy making my customers happy and matching unique pieces with new homes. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions! It means a lot to me that you are visiting my shop! : )
