ABOUT:
This one is so me! I love floral jewelry. I love French jewelry. I love the Art Nouveau movement. I love juicy garnets! This piece is all of those.
Delicious gold work with buttery glow depicting four figural poppy flowers with leaves. These are separated by five collet set garnets. For added movement there are filigree teardrop dangles from the center with the design mimicking the openwork geometric links on each end. This antique necklace / chain is a French Art Nouveau piece from the Belle Epoque period. Each link is connected to the adjacent by a loop to allow some movement across the front.
Beautiful rich antique patina to the 18k gold with French hallmarks on the loop. Delicious raspberry pinkish red glow to the garnets which are foil backed to reflect the light and enhance the color. I believe they are Perpignan with the foiled collet settings, however they are not the rose cut form that we typically see, but wonderful color.
MEASUREMENTS:
The chain is 15 3/4 inches in length. The piece weighs 13.25 grams. The floral links are about 19mm wide, the stones 8mm, the dangles about 25mm from the top of the flowers and garnet, to the bottom of the teardrop.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Some natural inclusions to the stones and some small nicks but the piece seems to have been very lightly worn. There is a bit of buildup around the garnets just at the edges between the stone side facets and the collet, but this could be carefully wiped away. With the closed back setting you should not get this one wet as it can cause rust and deterioration to the foil which is currently in excellent condition.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
