If you follow along with me at MHA, you know I typically concentrate on carrying antique pieces with old cut stones. But this month I am bringing out a few pre-owned to vintage pieces that I felt were still unique and exceptional. Each of them offering certain elements that really spoke to me, which I thought would be fun to bring to the shop. : )
In the case of this ring, it's the fun east west setting and the eye clean radiant cut diamond. I haven't had a radiant cut before so I thought it would be fun to add to the shop. Fabulous color and unique setting to the nice sized 1.7 carat (approx) center diamond. It is accented by channel set princess cut diamonds, fur on each side adding an additional .8 carat for a total carat weight of 2.5 carats.
This French vintage piece has a sturdy setting and high quality hand feel. I like how the princess cuts on each side of the radiant cut are tucked under the girdle edge to give the ring face across the board sparkle. The diamonds have a nice white color, but can reflect a beautiful pale yellow color in warm sunlight due to the yellow gold setting and the way the stones reflect the direct light.
The piece has the French hallmark for 18k gold along with a goldsmith stamp.
Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and the pictures can make it difficult to see scale. Antique box is not included.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
Size 9, the shank is somewhat oval and appears to have been sized up.
The center diamond is about 7.7 by 5.8mm with a thick polished girdle. Around 1.7 carat alone. I wouldn't remove it from the setting for an exact measurement. There are the eight additional princess diamonds at the shoulders measuring about 2.5mm each give or take / .1 carat each. This adds about another .8 carat for a total carat weight of 2.5 carats for the ring.
The piece weighs 5.9 grams. It stands 6mm off the finger.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
My items do very well without paperwork so I have not sent the stone for certification but always provide as much detail as possible with measurements, condition notes and many extra photos (see website) to capture it true to life in various lighting conditions, which can be translated to grading scales if desired.
Not even a nibble to the diamond. It is completely eye clean with no detectible inclusions even under strong magnification (VVS). Sturdy setting, ready to wear.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
