I am selling an assortment of vintage to antique jewelry and rings which I have hunted for and gathered from around the world. Some examples seen in the last photo - thanks for stopping by!
ABOUT:
One of my best and most favoritest ( ; brooches is this diamond set bar brooch set with nineteen old cut diamonds. This French piece from the Art Deco period is super special because all the diamonds were chosen intentionally for their varying hues. Old mine cut diamonds with colors are just about my favorite things in the jewelry world. I thought for a hot minute about using the stones to make some diamond band rings but the piece is so gorgeous with the array of hues that reducing it down would seem to lessen its impact, compared to seeing all 19 in a row.
Some of the stones including the largest have the grayish to blue hues. There are some champagnes and pale yellows, some more vibrant greenish yellows, some warm to warm white, and then my personal favorites, the rare ones with pink to blush hues - really difficult to find especially in antique stones. Some of the diamonds are typical old mine cuts with open culets, others a more hand chiseled old cut. We love to find these variances in our antique stones, where each is one of a kind, although to detect the differences in cut I have to use magnification.
So this one is a rainbow of fun. It would be an excellent candidate for conversion to a pendant, adding a loop on each side to wear as a connector or extender or front and center as a pendant. I showed in pics how it would look converted to a pendant, although as is with the pin back it would teeter on the decollette and not face outward without some alteration.
Being a pin that was very gently worn, it is in as excellent condition as can be found for an antique piece which is another thing that makes it a great conversion option.
Found in France with their hallmarks for 18k gold and platinum. The diamond portion is platinum, the pin post is white gold. Also has a partial goldsmith stamp.
Antique boxes, chains, props in photos is not included. Please note the measurements as I have small hands and it can be difficult to decipher scale from photos.
SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It measures 75mm end to end and if you include the pin post it is 6.5mm deep. It weighs 7.9g.
The center diamond is 6.1mm measuring about .87 carat alone. The others graduate from 3.7mm down to 2.6mm.
I do not remove stones from antique settings for exact carat weight but estimates to about 3.5 carats total weight in diamonds.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
Pretty much alllll the diamonds have inclusions, a few appearing quite frosty throughout. Some with a sort of galaxy design within, with some warm and carbon inclusions giving some areas a salt and pepper effect. With fancy color diamonds, color is the dominant value factor. Diamond clarity does not add as much value in fancy-colored diamonds because a diamond’s color is the most sought after feature. It is also worth noting it can be more common to find inclusions in colored stones due to how they were formed in the earth, the chemical structure of the stone causing the coloring can also cause said inclusions.
Fortunately, stones with hues does help mask the natural inclusions in the stone. These also give the stone its sort of color changing attributes, as the hues shift from direct light to ambient light based on how the inclusions and the stone catch the light - quite fascinating. But still - this is not the piece for those who like their antique diamonds bright white and crystal clear. This is for collectors like me who love the one of a kind eccentricities that antique diamonds provide.
The center diamond and one next to it have dark carbon in that sort of galaxy pattern giving it the gray to blue color. Again they are all included - and fabulously so if you ask me. : ). No damage or loss to any of the stones and they are all well set and secure. Trombone clasp functions well.
Like many diamonds with hues, especially these that are more pastel in nature, the vibrancy of color can vary depending on lighting conditions, with the colors appearing more muted in some light, appearing more as varying shades of warm to gray, but in brighter conditions, the yellows and pinks and greens are notable and eye visible. You'll notice the pics show the same piece a million times but I was doing my best to capture it in all different lighting conditions to give an idea of how it can vary. : )
This is a one of one treasure.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
