ABOUT:
Here is an uncommon ring with so many interesting, high quality elements and plenty of hidden secrets.
First we have the striking handshake / hands clasped at the front of the wide band. In Georgian and Victorian times, the handshake motif pieces were a symbol of betrothal, agreement, friendship and commitment, including marriage.
Next we discover that the hands open revealing panels on each side with text reading "Mazel Tov" in Hebrew ("congratulations" or wishing someone good fortune / luck.)
THEN, once opened, we discover that the rectangular panel underneath the hands is Also a locket which flips open revealing a small compartment.
So many moving parts on this interesting and sturdy (it weighs 10.5 grams of 18k gold!) wide band. The panels on each side are hand engraved with moons and stars and linear designs.
Found in Paris, France, there is a "T" mark branded or cast inside the lid of the locket. And in the side panel is the French hallmark stamp for 18k gold. Vintage to antique - I'm not sure how old this one is but clearly has some age to it with the hand engravings and the hinged fabrication.
The piece is quite sturdy with a nice and high quality / heavy hand feel. With the eternity band design, it is beautiful to wear, and of course the secret panels make it such a great conversation piece. Love figural pieces! I wish this one fit me. : )
MEASUREMENTS:
Size 7 1/4. 9mm north south at the ring face and 5mm tall off the finger, the sides of the band are 2.5mm thick / deep. It weighs a very sturdy 10.5 grams.
Quite uncommon and special.
Antique box is not included. Please note the detailed measurements that I always provide, as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures where I am required to show zoomed in detail.
IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:
All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Completely sturdy and stable, the panels move a bit while wearing but do not come open. The locket lid does not "snap" shut but has tension to remain shut. The hinges are in good shape and sturdy. Some surface wear and patina. Always recommend a gentle hand when dealing with tiny gold hinges! : ). But this one is quite sturdy and I had no problems or concerns opening and closing it.
Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
