ABOUT:

Beautiful, colorful and chubby - smiling man in the moon pendant / fob in 14k gold. The carved stone has a beautiful blue glow and lots of character. NOTE THAT HE IS NOT CRACKED (sorry for the shouty caps, but just noting that what you may see in the videos are natural inclusions within the stone.)

At first I assumed it was a moonstone, but looking at it more closely, seeing all the white frosty inclusions within and the fact that in some areas the stone has a multi-color rainbow glow, we can see that it is actually a scarcer carved labradorite. One of my favorite stones and not often found in antiques. White labradorites are often called rainbow moonstones. Both stones are included in the Feldspar family so we do see some similarities as expected. He reads as blue overall but with direct light you can see the little rainbows appear.

Victorian era piece, the man in the moon is set in a closed backed, chunky halo of 14k gold (tested) with a riveted outline edge to the bezel. Gorgeous glowing patina - a wonderful pendant or bracelet charm, especially when it moves and the flash of blue is seen.

MEASUREMENTS:

22mm tall including the attached loop but not the dangling bale. It is 19mm wide and 9mm deep. It weighs 4.3 grams.

IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. Some surface wear, smoothing and tool marks and varying patina to the back to the gold from wear over the years and possibly some sort of alteration looking at the difference in gold hues. Wear and unevenness to the gold bezel but the stone is secure.

Some surface wear to the labradorite but no chips, still very legible. He appears quite frosty overall which is how these labradorite stones always present. The linear layers can almost look like hairline cracks or fissures but these are natural characteristics of the stone - the layers of calcium and sodium rich material which reflect and refract the colors within the stone. Ah labradorites - so interesting! Note the small loop on top. He's a special guy!

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )

Many of my listings include group shots – I find the comparisons between pieces help show scale, diamond hues, etc. All items in group shots are inventory, but refer to the website to see what items have sold out and to watch for new listings from the grouping to appear on the home page.
