ABOUT:

A special and unique Georgian era Scottish ring with Reversible design! This piece was meant to be flipped! When flipped one way, the rose cut diamond set applied motif depicts a flower in a vase. Flip it the other way, and a thistle with leaves and roots appears. THEN we flip it over - and we see the amazing floral engravings inside the ring face (what we in the trade call the ring butt or ring booty : )

Aside from the amazing details, the piece has a fabulous color and sparkle, with a halo of rose cut diamonds surrounding the cobalt blue enamel panel, to which the floral motif is applied. The halo and the floral motif is topped in silver as was customary for the period to set diamonds in a white metal.

Additional floral details carry over to the ring shoulders which has a small engraved pansy or forget me not on each side. Such a special piece! Found in the UK, no hallmarks remain, the piece tests at 14k gold.

Please note the measurements as I have small fingers and it can be difficult to determine scale from pictures.

Antique box not included.

SIZE & MEASUREMENTS:
It is currently a size 7. The ring face is 21x12mm. It is 5mm tall off the finger with the applied floral detail. It weighs 4.8g.

I do not remove my stones from their antique settings for exact measurements. The exposed visible portion of the largest diamond on the vase or thistle head measures 3.7mm. The stones in the halo are each about 1.5mm. Like most rose cuts with a flat back they have a lower comparative carat weight than a modern diamond but the surface area gives it the appearance of a larger carat stone. If you were to translate the stone measurements to a modern diamond ring, it faces up with the appearance of about 0.8 carat in diamonds.

CONDITION NOTES:

All my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. One tiny rose cut is missing from the halo but with the patina and coloring of the piece, I thought it best to leave it as is since it is hardly noticeable. A modern repair could really stick out like a sore thumb so sometimes it can be best to just accept the quirks of these 200 year old pieces. The diamonds read warm to gray with a wonderful texture and moody sparkle, as we expect to find in pieces of this age in closed back settings. The piece appears to have been re-shanked, with the flowers at each shoulder and the engraved ring back original to the piece, but reinforced on the smooth / plain back half of the shank with a sturdy band that reads more yellow gold compared to the rose gold of the setting. The largest diamond is chipped on one edge with some shallow flakes of loss. It still fills the space and appears complete to the eye but you can see the frostiness in that area.

Typical old rose cut diamonds with some inclusions, nicks, frosty and irregular edges, likely have always been that way as they were rough cut by hand. They tend to always look like this, they are small so this is not really visible to the eye, they just add a nice little glint of sparkle.

Please note that all my pieces are pre-owned and in estate condition. They will have patina, surface wear, a few small nicks. These pieces may also have evidence of a sizing, some build up around the stones and / or inclusions seen under magnification, typical for antique pieces. I have mentioned any noticeable issues above and they are all still wearable and eager to be loved and accepted for many years to come, (the preservation of antique jewelry, even those with signs of their age and history, is important to me. : )
But - Please note due to age, this piece is not in mint condition. Pictures also serve as part of the description and condition report so please utilize the zoom feature which will magnify any wear significantly more than what is visible to the eye while wearing : )
